Has anyone seen the new 2005 R1 in black, commonly refered to as the "raven". I love my 2003 R1, BUT, I'm considering moving up to the new bike, and while I'm at it, might as well get it in Black!

I don't know man, 180+ hp on a bike sounds like death, but it is a bad@ss bike. hmm....decisions decisions. I want an R7, but mostly because of its rarity.

I love posts like this. On a bike, 50hp could be death. I have ridden turbo huyabusas that make the R1 look like a toyota camry.

Every time you ride, you take a risk with your life, whether it is 70hp or 180 hp.

Its a great bike. I am trading my 04 in for the 05 (all black) in about another month. I am going to strip all the decals and everything and go stealth. If you can wait, I will send you the pics on delivery. [email protected] :)

    Ride safe out there bro.[

No offense bro. I don't have any liter gixxers :D I have couple of 750s (one srad) and one new.

The current gix 1000 can't hold a candle to the R1, that is why last year I switched over to Yami for the first time. I have been pleasantly surprised with the build quality, and won't be going back to gixxer 1k for a while.

You know how I feel about CBRs (yuck), so I will have the Yami R1 05 for at least full 2 years.

Japanese bikes are changing at such a fast pace, that I tend to be on a first name basis with the dealers for trade ins :D

A buddy of mine owns a local Kawi dealer, and is trying to get me on their liter bike. I am gonna test ride it next week, and report back via PM to you.

I got couple of big weekends coming up. Kawi weekend, and then a Viper GTS weekend (with Brad from F chat).

My garage might be going through bigger changes than anticipated, granted I don't go off east to Y for L school. :)

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Yeah, I love the looks of the bike too. I'm considering it. My R1 is a 2003, I love it too. I really am impressed by the narrow frame at knee level on the 2004-2005 R1's. Much nicer than the wided engine hugging frame of the 2003 model........

This raven looks mean, but pretty, hum ?

Any hint of a new Fazer/FZS with more juice than the current model ?

Buddy John Lundgren owns it. Will tell you next weekend if I end up picking one up. Kawis/Yamis never impressed me. However having the R1 for a year changed my mind. Maybe John will sell me one. I am an open minded rider. :)

I think they did an excellent job styling the new R1. Everything fits perfectly and it all works together. I'd say go for it. What I also like about the styling is that I don't think it will ever look dated.

Not a bad idea, BUT, it would NEVER be a Raven. You see in 2004, they totally redesigned the bike. The new design has the frame box actually pass over the engine, enabling the factory to position the rider with his knees MUCH closer together, (centralized mass). The bike feels like a Ducati, (with lots more power), JMHO. Also, the engine now produces 180hp! Consider that; 180hp/liter, hmmmm............
I should just break down and buy it.................

I still like my GSXR1000 (Rapp's Daytona bike for 1994). More than enough power, and very slight (360# w/gas). Track day anyone?

Most riders at the amateur level will be quicker around the track on a 600 than a liter bike; getting a 170rwhp down while lean over takes huge balls and terrific commitment. If you just want 5th gear power wheelies, or you're a PRO racer, forgive me for butting in.
Oh and to whomever made the remark about bike being dangerous, they're half right, the truth is: riding a motorcycle is dangerous when being ridden on public roads, populated by inattentive drones in cars.

I'd suspect a very good rider could make use of all 180hp on the track, (I counldn't). The bike has other great points too though! When I drive my 348 Turbo, I don't normally floor it every chance I get so I can "use" all 500 hp. The bike, IMO is beautiful! It also HANDLES wonderfully! I need one in my garage!

I'd suspect there are only a handful of rides that could make full use of 180hp on a road course. I don't know what the rule is now, but 10 years ago when I was racing (or trying to anyway), 750 was the biggest bike they would let a novice on the track with. And at my local track, 750s accounted for 10% of the bikes and 50% of the crashes. My bike was about 90rwhp, so maybe 105 crank....I can't even imagine 180 on the track....now if the road was just a little bit straighter... :)
