I have a 2005 F430 Spider with Hi-Fi. There are two speakers in the rear shelf that may be subwoofers. They recently started making this horrible noise with any type of medium volume or bass and one or more sounds dry rotted and/or blown. I called the dealer and the parts guy said they are $750 each to replace but there are none even at factory. He suggested I call a car stereo place and have them replace it with something similar. The computer did not tell him the sizes of the speakers unfortunately.

Does anyone have any insight on what speaker sizes are in there? Any suggests on what to put in? Should I replace them or just have them disconnected as they seem to be nearly worthless with the factory radio that has no bass/treble adjustments.

    Thanks.

There is one active driver and one passive radiator.

the passive radiator is used to trick the active driver so it things it is operating in a larger enclosure so the low end would be slightly extended

    Not a great concept

    Thanks Greg.
I have the only Hi-Fi subwoofer replacement kit on the planet that allows you to retain your stock speaker grills to retain that all stock look. The subs are aluminum coned so they won't disintegrate like the stock speakers. I also have a 400 Watt, 100% plug and play replacement amplifier for the horrid 60 Watt booster located under your dash. These two items will completely transform the quality of your sound system, even if you keep the stock door speakers.
    Visit www.scuderiaaudio.com for details.

I recently replaced mine with Scuderia Audio parts and just like everyone here says--Mike and this products are awesome. After replacement, I had vibrations anytime the volume was over a "2". Further investigation determined that it came from the plastic support veins under the grill cover. A little epoxy cures that too, otherwise Mike sells replacement grills.

Nice. Can you explain which one I would want. The $299 one? Is it just the speakers that go inside the black grills? Can i easily do myself or do I have to find a shop? In the interim can I just pull the plug on them to shut them off or is the wire a nightmare to get to myself? Thanks.

The $299 one is the one you need. The kit is really easy to install. Here's exactly what you do:
    1. Remove the stock grills. If you have small fingers, try to grab the edge at any point and gently pull out towards you. It helps if you try to jiggle them a bit up and down and left to right. When the area where you are grabbing starts to pull out, move to another area and gently pull on that area. There are no hidden fasteners so they should eventually pop out.
    2. Take a standard #2 Phillips screwdriver and remove the 4 screws on each of the two speakers. Remove the speakers. One will have 4 wires attached to it. Cut all four wires off of the speaker as close as you can to where they are connected (soldered). Remove a bit of insulation off of the ends of the 4 wires.
    3. Crimp the crimp connectors included in your kit, to each of the 4 wires.
    4. Bolt the 2 brackets that come in your kit to the box. Use the countersunk screws (not the rounded head screws) through the countersunk holes in the brackets, and bolt into the brass threaded inserts in the box.
    5. Using the crimp connectors, connect the red and black wires to one of the new subs (it doesn't matter which one) where red is positive and black is negative. Connect the blue and yellow wires to the other sub (blue is positive, yellow is negative).
    6. Bolt the new subs to the brackets using the rounded head screws that come in your kit.
    7. Reinstall the speaker grills. Line up the 4 hooks on the back of the grills with the 4 tabs that stick up on each of the brackets.

Now, if your speakers are making popping or crackling noises because they are deteriorating, the new subwoofers will definitely take care of that problem. However, you will still have the same problem where the music will sound like it's being pushed through a cheese grater (i.e. horrible distortion) when you turn up the volume. That's because the system is still being powered by a 60 Watt booster with an incredible 10 percent distortion level. Quite possibly the worst piece of electronic gear ever designed. Installing one of my 400 Watt super amps will provide an astonishing improvement in the sound quality, even if you still have the stock door speakers. I've sold almost 200 super amps for 360's and 430's without a single return. However, if you get one and are not completely blown away by the improvement, call me and I'll have your money back in your pocket in two minutes. You can send the amp back later.

I've actually been offered to be flown across the country, first class, several times to do installations for high end cars. Between writing high tech software by day here in the Silicon Valley (Bachelors, Masters Degrees in Computer Science) and trying to keep up with stereo orders, I barely have time to blink these days. Fortunately, I over engineer all of my gear to the point where just about anyone can install it.

Yes, I do have a portable system that I can set up in any car in about two minutes so you can hear what my system will sound like in your car before spending any money.
I also have my new dual subwoofer system set up in my own 360 so you can hear what two 8 inch subwoofers sounds like. 100% seat clearance.

I had new subs, door speakers and upgraded amp, now sounds epic.
I also had Mike supply new sub grills as unobtainable anywhere, very happy indeed.
