I'm looking to move back to Ferrari and remember hearing about a special edition refered to as the Scaglietti 456M back in 2002-2003. Anyone seen one? Know of any for sale??

There was a Schumacher special edition with two tone paint-- could that be what you are thinking of?

More likely he's referring to the two tone paint special offered through the Scaglietti customization program. Was a pretty nice example at Concorso Italiano a few years back that I thought looked good. NOt a real fan of the two tone paint thing, but this seemed to work well. Here's a really poor pic. Hard to tell, but the top is a darker tone with some brown in it. Don't know the actual paint name.

That looks an awful lot like the Michael Schumacher special edition.

This link refers to it both ways, as a 456M Scaglietti and mentions the Schumacher connection:

    http://www.topspeed.com/cars/ferrari/ferrari-456m-gt-scaglietti-ar2178.html

In the past, I had always heard of those cars as "Schumacher special editions" but maybe Scaglietti is more appropriate.

That's the one...I remember originally reading about it in Forza but have not seen any for sale in FML, dealers, etc since then. Thanx for the help though.

I have 9 so-called Bicolore units in my database. Some of them show up as Bicolore Scaglietti and some as Schumacher Edition. Maybe the Schumacher was added as it looks like Schuy owned the first of the numbers listed: 126886. It was later for sale in Switzerland @ Garage Zenith.

Many of the 9 showed up in Europe. The last I've seen was at official Dealer Lueg's near Düsseldorf: ZFFWP50B000130042 being Grigio Titano & Canna di Fucile. It sat in their showroom for more than a year and was for sale.

There were several US versions also, were there not?

I remember one of them being for sale in FML for a long time, new.

Probably yes, I have 2.120 of the total production of 3.290 of 456s in my database (unsatisfying low quote), but sometimes the advertiser don't call it Bicolore or misses to add the second exterior colour. I think, I remember a source that named the total production of Bicolores 100 units, but I do not have a confirmation on this.

    Neal,

would it be asking too much if I would ask you about the Serial Number of the car? I'm a member of Telaio as well and we are currently discussing the # of Bicolores and furthermore, if Scaglietti Bicolore and Schumacher Edition are different kinds, even if they are both Bicolore. A fellow Telaio supposes that there have been only 20 or less cars been Bicolore what would explain my low number of 9 Serial Numbers on this model. On the other hand, if your car is an US-Model, the colour-combination would not fit with the information I have on 2 cars called Schumacher Edition that are supposed to be the only US-delievered cars (132383, new to Ferrari of Orange County and 132385, new to Auto Gallery, LA). Both cars had a grey interior with Bordeaux stittching and your car looks like Bordeaux interior.

At the 2002 Paris Auto Show Ferrari featured
    a 456M GT, with the bi-colour Scaglietti
program. I saw the car while visiting the
show on the internet, then called my
Ferrari dealer and requested that my
order for a 2003 456M GT be exactly
like the Ferrari on display in Paris.

They placed the order and heard from the
folks at F.N.A. in New Jersey that these
two 456M GT's would be the only two cars
made by Ferrari that would have this
    color combination, Nero Daytona exterior,
    Grigio alfieri top, bordeaux interior.

I took delivery in May 2003 and this
turned out to be the last 456M GT delivered
by my dealer, Cauley Ferrari in Michigan.

I believe that what distinguished the Schumacher edition from the various special order bicolor 45M Scagliettis generally was that they were all 6-speeds and had the same gray interior with contrasting red thread.

Is it therefore the case that only 100 bicolore/ sch/ scalligetti were ever made?

Any idea of their premium re-sale over normal 456M models?
