2000 Lexus GS400 Platinum Series 119,375 Highway Miles, Less than 9,000 a year! Not modified, clean and clear title in hand. Normal wear and tear for age - front driver seat has rip in leather, all other seats in good condition. The Good: Body is in decent shape, no rust or major dings on the body. Some oxidation on the lights, which happens to these cars. Fully loaded, with everything in working order (6 CD changer, stereo, cassette player). Stereo LCD panel doesn't show display, which again is common on these cars for some reason. 4.0L V8 (1UZ-FE, 300HP, 310 lb/ft torque) with 5-speed automatic, with E-Shift on steering wheel, vehicle skid control and performance modes. Traction control + stability control and brake assist. Factory HID headlights and fog lights, dual heated front seats, wood dash, new brake pads at all corners. Timing belt changed at 80,000 miles. Platinum Series includes: Unique 16" 7 Spoke wheels, black chrome emblems, perforated leather seating surfaces, platinum embroidered floor mats. The Bad: Windshield is cracked. The header flange that meets the exhaust pipe has rusted and the car sounds like it has an open exhaust. I had this welded a few years ago, but it was a temporary fix. The tires need to be replaced, at least the back two (front two look, maybe 70% tread). The car sits quite a bit (I work from home) and the calipers are starting to freeze up - I greased them but it's still a little "sticky". Caliper replacement is pretty simple and cheap if you do it yourself - they work but need to be used more to loosen up. The Bottom Line This car has the 1UZ-FE engine, and 2000 was the last year of production before the 3UZ-FE was used. The 1UZ-FE engine is far more overbuilt than the 3UZ-FE (6 volt mains, studs instead of bolts, thicker block inner sleeve space, thicker rods, etc.) - it's a stout and sturdy engine. Some notable comparisons here: GS430 Block Vs. LS400 Block (3UZ vs. 1UZ) The 1UZ-FE was allegedly based on a CART / IRL engine design, and the 3UZ variant was used in the Lexus Grand-Am cars. People tend to over look the sporty nature of these cars, the engine is a gem and it's a decent handling car. The car is a driver, but it does need work. I've owned this car for almost 9 years, it's been a workhorse, but I've since replaced it with a Kia Rio (yes, a step down I know). Asking $6000 or best offer. Not too many cheaper cars here, at least at last check. My private message mailbox is pretty full, so if you have any questions, just post on the thread. Just saw the post for the 2000 528i - due to that, I'll go $5,500 OBO. Think about it, a CART/IRL-based, wailing V8 to motivate you while sitting in (relative) luxury. YOU WANT THIS CAR!!!
Do you have the window sticker? What was the MRSP in 2000, $45k? Since they've got almost exactly the same miles make it a straight ratio vs. the 528i's new price. I'm betting the MSRP on that was $50k. Anyone want to guess $50,001? Nice looking car BTW, but both you and southpaw should drop $15 and an hour of your time to buff up those headlights GLWS
I don't think I have the sticker - but I remember looking at one of these new, and it was $50K+! I did buff them out as best I could - they do have that little bit of "fog". The car photographs nicely, it's not pristine by any stretch. I've owned it for nearly 9 years, bought it off lease from the original owner. Barely drove it, and sitting has been the biggest issue. Hoping to sell it as I have a Kia Rio that I purchased from my father...need the money!!!
Drop to $4,500. According to KBB, private party sell on a car in "fair" condition is $6,400. I'm already below what dealer would give me on trade in ($4,600), so someone would be getting a fair price. I'm negotiable. I have 6 cars - this one has to go.
How is the condition of the leather on all the seats? In one picture it looks like the leather is cracked on the drivers seat.
The driver seat is cracked, the rest of it is in good shape. For the time I did drive the car, it was just me commuting to work.
I love the car - it's far more sporty than given credit for. Drives well, it's just getting old and it sat a lot, so it needs some TLC. I was offered $3K for it, which I initially turned down, but I'd probably take that now.
Still have the car - 2 eBay snafus, and it's still here. I'll take $3,500 for the car - it runs and it's clean...anyone?
