Greetings all, Does anyone have a recommendation on which brand to use for changing stock cats to 200-Cell sport cats? Does one sound better than the other? Best Regards, ZM
Get Kline Innovation HJS 100 cell cats with some Redback mini cats, massive sound, lighter, no CEL & cheaper, its the way to go
I went with Capristo 200 cell cats, heat blankets and O2 simulators on my Speciale. Apparently the O2 simulators fool the ECUs so no CELs. I left all other exhaust components OEM. The cats changed the sound of the Speciale from "uninspired" to VERY aggressive...but still civilized. I was very unhappy with the sound of the stock Speciale exhaust. Now I absolutely love my Speciale. It's a keeper. But if I were ever forced to go back to the stock exhaust I'd sell the car. The 200 cats made all the difference in the world.
Hi Carlo, Happy New Year Totally crazy holidays around here. We gave our grandson (he's 3) a battery powered Ferrari Formula One car that he can drive himself (it goes 1.5 MPH). He immediately drove it straight into the patio furniture. LOL. It actually sounds better than the current Formula One cars :-j Anyway, things are finally starting to get back to normal here. Back on topic. My Speciale seemed to run hotter than I expected. Water temperature would typically be 220ish. After I installed 200 cell cats the engine runs much cooler around 190-200 degrees. I just read another post you made where you also noticed your 458 ran much cooler after you went to 200 cell cats. I had never heard anybody mention thIs before so it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I am amazed that nobody wants to venture forth with 100 cells (made my whom ever but with HJS core) and Redback mini cats, what are you afraid of ?
RichardCH, At that point would you suggest doing a cat-delete pipe with the Redback mini cats? I was hoping to use the 200-Cell to still be somewhat compliant.
Well neither are probably complaint but I would not go cat delete/straight pipes as that is just redneck, the 100 cells are fab I have them on my 911 Turbo, 430 Spider and SCUD, it gives you THAT extra sound (above 20O cells) and HJS have a very, very solid reputation
With 100 Octane the cats burn up too quick. already on the 200 cell ones the honeycomb is burning up fast and the thing goes louder and louder.
I've heard that 100 cell cats tend not to last as long as 200 cell cats (I use 91 octane AKI so may not be an issue). No idea if true or not. Straight pipes are just too loud for regular use in town. I thought 200 cell cats would be a good compromise where 100 cell cats might still be just a little too loud (all subjective of course). Capristo 200 cell cats were packaged with heat blankets and O2 simulators (no CEL issues so far) so I decided to go that route. But I bet 100 cell cats would be a very good choice as well...just a bit louder.
I have Novitec 100 cats and they are not so loud when you behave and drive normally in the city but if you push than it's another story
Well just to put things in perspective I have put 50,000 miles over 8 years on my 911 Turbo 100 cell cats and they are still doing very well thank you, just make sure you get HJS nothing else, as there is plenty of sub standard versions you can buy which are half the price but HJS are not wildly expensive something like $600 for a pair and the rest is simply a front and back end canister precision welded to them
MuratC, Do you have any other exhaust upgrades besides the Novitec 100 cats? Any issues with CEL or did you do a Ecu tune?
I have the Full Inconel Novitec exhaust package from manifolds to the exhaust tips along with ECU upgrade. It has been more than a year now. I am extremely happy with it. Here is a link I shared so many times for its sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVyaAzHIRDA
if you get them made in Inconel 625 you will have the max heat dispersion with this F1 metal Inconel 625
I'm thinking of going with GMG 200 cell (HJS) cats. Has anyone combined these with either Novitec or IPE exhaust systems? It's hard to tell the difference from Youtube videos.. How do the O2 simulators work and who makes them? I would prefer that over CEL override. I'm wondering now if the ECU is upgraded on my 2010 458. I'm not getting these machine gun pops but the car gurgles and pops a little sometimes on overruns. Or are the pops more extreme because of upgraded exhausts?
I like the idea of taking steps to reduce the heat in the engine bay. I know Capristo heat blankets aren't cheap, but I decided the benefits (reducing heat) justified the cost. Watch this video showing a guy with a blow torch heating up a Capristo heat blanket on one side and yet it was cool enough to touch on the other side. http://youtu.be/Tlfq84sO0pQ Image Unavailable, Please Login
To be honest, I was not even aware that coating the cats was an option If you decide to pursue both options please post your findings. The Capristo heat blankets appear to be very well made (I "assume" they will last a very long time), but they weren't inexpensive (I think they cost about $1,800). They don't have much visual appeal, but they are hardly visible in the Speciale. The coating looks better than blankets, but you can't really see the cats once they are installed anyway so I guess appearance is not a major concern. What have you learned so far about coating? Cost, effectiveness, durability, availability?
Fabspeed offers their set in a ceramic coating. I'm not sure on the exact cost but believe it was around $500-$750? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm from Missouri (not really, but I still like to see things with my own eyes). Ask Fabspeed to send a video of someone touching the cat with their hand when the engine is hot
+1 Aside from added aesthetics, ceramic coating will help dissipate heat but the part itself still gets quite hot, for safety purposes heat shielding is a much better alternative. Btw if anyone wants to get any part ceramic coated and live in the SoCal area my friends at Extreme Performance Coatings in Camarillo, CA do fabulous work: Xtreme Performance Heat Coatings best
