What finish coat do you plan on going with? I just repaired mine, but have not decided on finish.

My process was to throughly degrease the trays, block sand them to remove all previous coatings, repair any cracks and fill any pin holes.

This tray in particular was very poorly finished from factory with hundreds of pin holes in the gelcoat so I used a polyester gel coat repair putty and let it set before wet sanding it out.

Panel wiped it down, 2 coats of fiberglass primer, and then 3-4 light coats of Septone Matt Black acrylic. Thanks, like anything it’s all in the preparation. I painted a section without the proper process and the finish was very poor. So take note you need to properly prepare the surface or it will be patchy. One mistake I made was use wax and grease remover and it gets absorbed by the fiberglass and spoils the finish. Have to use non petroleum based - so I went with methylated spirits as a pre paint cleaner and it was perfect. Painful and time consuming lesson that one!

Thanks! The later year models not only had a slightly different undertray design but the moulds were better and the under trays had a much better finish. They were made by Ranger Plast in Italy, not sure if the early 95’s were too as they were pretty average and roughly finished.

The OEM one from Eurospares is not in stock new. I sourced a second hand item and will wait to see if it is going to be the fix.

Under trays finished and reinstalled on the car. Happy to have this item finished as it took quite a bit of time. The end result was worth it! Complete with the factory rubber capped dome nuts and black oxide washers.

Those rubber capped dome nuts have been hard to locate. Do you have a source?

Sure do. I drive it probably more than most. Has 61500 kms on the clock and I look forward to many more with the piece of mind the car is looking and running as per new if not better.

Unfortunately I do not. I collected them from breakers, purchasing a few to get a nice complete set of undamaged ones.

Completed and installed. Capristo bypass valve reinstated to keep OEM one for safe keeping. Still running stock exhaust and will remain that way for a bit. I will switch back to a Tubi Evolution soon as I’m pretty sure I prefer the note of the Tubi on a 2.7 car over the Capristo.
