Hello Forum, I am seriously looking at a 95 456 GT. We do not have a Ferrari Dealer in Louisville but we have a very good independent who works on my Maserati, 911 and Mercedes GLS. He is concerned that his diagnostic equipment will not be able to read anything before OBDII which we think started with the M in 97 or 98. Does anyone have any experience diagnosing with non-Ferrari software? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

You can have the car flash you any stored codes and look them up on this site. Otherwise, I think you need SD1 which only a Ferrari dealer would have. You are correct a 1995 is not OBDII.

There is a button near the ECU in each footwell that you hold down to get the car to flash the codes. You should be able to find the procedure if you search Fchat.

Thank you very much. So my independent mechanic should be able to decipher the code here? That would be great.

Thank you. Can the codes be cleared or reset or is that SD1 only?

Yes, you can clear the codes by holding down the button for a certain amount of time after you have read them. This is explained in the service manual for the 456 and 355. Both cars use the motronic 2.7

David- OBDII actually started with the MY 97 456 GTs and GTAs. These had Motronic 5.2, like the 456M, instead of the earlier 456's 2.7. OBDII was required on US model cars on 1 January 1996, which is why there are no MY 96 456 GTs. MY 97 456 GTs and GTAs started showing up in the US around Spring/Summer 1996.
