No GTSi in 85. GTSi name stopped with the 2 valve cars.

That is simply not true. Ferrari itself labels the car GTSI right on the dashboard.

I stand corrected. Did not know they actually used the GTSi naming through 85 on the interior. Still not the official model naming according to Ferrari though.

Then who officially named the GTSi on the fuse box cover?

    Left over rear badges.

Same reason they used GTS and GTB on the fuse cover of the first Si and Bi cars in 80

i is unnecessary on the QV because all QV's were injected. No differentiation necessary like 76-82.

Dr. Tommy is correct - the 83-85 cars are not GTSi or GTBi cars, officially they are just 308 GTS and 308 GTB, with a QV or quattrovalvole added depending on how it's listed - never an 'i', though. the fuse cover panel badge has little to do with the official nomenclature, and as noted - the use of the badges lagged the actual model nomenclature by quite a few production months, as they used up old stock badges on the fuse cover panels when the model names changed.

    Cheers,
    Gordon

    Hey there Jon,

Did you list this car on ebay around 5 years ago? I bid on one with that chocolate dash - was either an 84 or 85, i think, back when I was shopping (and obviously didnt win the auction) - just curious if that was yours. :)

No - I consigned it with Gary Bobileff in 2015. I believe the current owner/seller acquired it then.

GTSi simply means injected. So, technically all QV's are "i's" but externally there was no room for the GTSi badge because it got supplanted by the Quattrovalvole badge. So there is actually no external badging on the QV's that denotes either GTS or GTB, only on the interior dash panel where there is an "i" For the 328 they ditched both the "i" and the Quattrovalvole and just went back to GTS or GTB under the 308 badge.

The logic behind it is that pretty much everyone was adding an "i" to their badges around the late 70's to early 80's to denote the new fangled fuel injection that race cars had been using since around 1967 but by 1983 there were very few new cars using carburetors so the tacked on "i's" just quietly faded away.

It is common in the 308 community for GTSi to mean the '81-'82 2V models but no reason to lambaste anyone for pointing out that the QV's and even the 328's were all injected. although let's admit that GTSiQV is quite a mouthful.

Ferrari correctly dropped the i on the QV onward in any of their references.

308 QV sales have been all over lately. This one looked like a clean car. I’m very surprised that it didn’t meet the reserve price.

The car actually did sell, it was very easy to work out a deal with the high bidder. The sale price is just below the reserve, in the low six figures. If everyone that had contacted me after the auction ended, wanting to buy the car, would have bid on the car, the auction would have been very successful, very strange. It is a real shame that peoples perception of the real world value of a car like this will be skewed by this apparent no sale false data point. Thanks.

It is not my place to divulge the actual sale price without the consent of the buyer. But as I eluded to in the post you have referenced, it sold just below the reserve price. The reserve was 115K.

One of the nicer 308's on BAT. Maybe buyers didn't want a bidding war. The reason why everyone reached out after. I cant figure out BAT sales numbers. I thought this car was gonna sell for 115-130K all day long.
