Holy bright lite. Well this is the last effort before Quail, I will send some pics from the lawn. I am also going to go see some Boxers auctioned off, let’s see what the market looks like for some good cars.

    Hi Scott,
I discover your thread and appreciate all the little details you mention with pics, because I have a 512 BBi (#41507, 1982), recently perfectly renovated in Italy, and doing the final fine tuning to be as original. Based in France.
Some questions I would greatly appreciate if you (or any knowledgeable Fchatter) could give me your insights:

For the ignition coil sticker BAE 202 B, I wish to source it by "I say Ding Dong", they propose 2 colours: white or silver for the base paper colour.
According to your knowledge is it rather white or silver, because not obvious on the pics?
For the small tool bag, in camoscio, black colour (matching with my interior), I don't get it and not identified any sourcing.
Since you did one with a specific tool to emboss cavallinos, could you tell me how I could get it?
My only missing tool is the oil filter wrench which I don't find easily (I see on various pics that in 1982, it had no black plastic on the handle, just bichromated metal). Any idea of sourcing (nothing on eBay)?
Lastly, I have no large black cover for the spare wheel: do you know where I could get it/manufacture it for reasonable price?
    Thanks by advance,
    Cheers,
    Jean-Paul

Jean-Paul, keep in mind that the oil filter wrench I believe is the same one used on the 308 QV. It might be easier to find that way.
The sticker I believe to be silver.
The cover for the spare wheel will be very difficult, try Eurospares and then they will go back to the factory.

Or you could just go to Maranello Classics and leave out the middle man. The factory has had nothing to do with parts supply for Boxers since about 3 or 4 years after they were built. They turn that all over to Maranello Classic after just a couple of years.

Thanks George & Brian for your quick answers.
For the filter wrench indeed the 308 is the same but I already looked for, and nothing.
For another 330GTC of mine, it has been a long time to find a Carello exact repro wrench.
So, patience probably looking on eBay...
The wheel cover, you confirm it is a truffle since I don't wish to pay crazy for that stuff!
Remain the camoscio tool pouch which should be easier since I see that some Fchatters have had the tool to emboss, which is key.
Hoping to get an answer from their side?...
    Cheers,

Hi Jean-Paul, I had a spare wheel cover made for my 512BB by friend in Australia and it fits very well and looks just like the original. The cost was around Australian $600. Let me know if you want his email address.

    Hi Simon,
Thanks; yes I am interested. I propose that you give me his e-mail address by PM.
The only drawback may be shipping since Australia to Bordeaux/France is not next door. The cover is a large surface needing a strong case for shipping.
    Anyway, let's see.
    Thanks again,
    Jean-Paul

in october last year I sent a complete interior equipment for a BBi ( so seats, dashboard, panels, center console... all ) from germany to australia in a big box what arrived just before x-mas. it took about 10 weeks and the costs have been around 1600,- € for the shipping from my home to the harbor in australia. so not so expensive when you look around for a good rate. only take time.
or you fly over to australia and take the cover in your big suitcase? I think it will fit into a big one?

I am in London and he shipped it to me without problems. I seem to recall he charged about Aus $200 to ship it with DHL (and this was in clouded in the price I mentioned. I’ll PM his email address.

    Dear Simon,
Indeed 200AUSD, circa 120€, including rigid packaging for such a flexible piece from Australia looks "reasonable".
I just e-mailed and looking forward his answer. But I don't know if this person is doing himself the cover with synthetic materials or he is a vendor?
    Anyway, let's see the answer.
    Best,
    Jean-Paul

    Hi Simon,
I come back to you since I exchanged with the Australian person for the spare wheel cover of the BBi.
Thanks for your contact since he appears to be serious.
Unfortunately, he supplies only the polyester base and not the finished product covered with cloth.
He only thinks of a cloth that I would set myself, type billiard cloth, in black, which seems suitable compared to the surrounding covering in place in my front lid.
But I don't know how this cover is cloth covered , mostly in the verso whereas I never saw an original cover or close up pictures.
So, do you (or any Ferrari Chatter?) know the reference of this synthetic cloth , how is it settled (I suppose glued with neoprene glue), and how is the finishing on the verso side.
    Thank for the possible contribution,
    Cheers,
    Jean-Paul

The wheel cover is indeed covered in black cloth which matches the covering on the surrounding parts. I would think you would need to recover everything at the same time as the new cloth will stand out with a different colour. I found a great cloth from a supplier in the UK but it is expensive. The material is called ‘Darkness’ and costs around £50 per metre and you will need 5 metres. The supplier is:

Thanks Simon for this info on an adequate supplier.
But since the interior of front lid has just been redone (say 2 years ago) by well known Luppi in Italy (suppose the interior job included front lid covering...), I wouldn't recover everything again.
BTW, I may call Luppi (my Italian is better than my English) to get their appropriate cloth supplier matching the one they put in place.
My other concern is about the other side of the cover (verso).
The recto cloth is just fold on 2 or 3 centimetres leaving nearly the whole part visible in fibreglass, or is there another cloth piece, recovering this side as well and ending on the cloth "return"?
No idea since I never seen an original one? So, help...
    thanks,
    Jean-Paul

The underside is just bare fibreglass with the cloth folded over the edge. Looks messy but that is how the factory finished them. I’ve had a few Boxers and they have all been the same.

I know Luppi and I would suggest you sent the part straight to them for trimming.

    Good day Jean-Paul,

Given your comments that Luppi restored your interior, etc I agree with Simon that it would be the best to send the spare tire cover supply and installation of the fabric.

If for some reason this does not work out, then contact Henk at HVL, as he is also one of the best out there... and has recreated many of the materials used in old Ferraris:

    https://www.hvlclassleathers.com/products-in-stock/

As to Henk's skills... he was selected to fully restore the prototype Daytona's interior, with sourcing and recreating a number of the interior materials that were no longer available. His work must have made an impression, as the car was on display at the Ferrari Museum, etc.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Thanks Sam, and Simon, for your msg and Henk reference.
I didn't know them and indeed look highly specialised with all this Ferrari stuff. Great!
I just mailed Henk to get the appropriate ref which doesn't appear as for 512 in they product list.
About going back to Luppi, the idea is fair.
But considering that I have to add 2 packaging/transportation costs of this large plate cover, plus the cost of labour of Luppi which is at the level of their skills, for what looks a quite simple covering with neoprene spray, I would consider it too expensive and risky to brake the cover in transportation.
Doing the job myself, except if I miss something, I think I must just pay attention not to leave pleats on the central protuberence.
anyway, I will as well give a call to Luppi to ask for the cloth vendor details for a perfect match with the cloth they used for the lid.
Any critic or suggestion on above is always welcomed.
    Cheers,
    Jean-Paul

    Thks Paul,
In the meantime I sourced one, bare resin that I will cover with black cloth from Luppi,
    So I decline unfortunately. cheers,

  22. Impressive job. Congratulations!

Is it possible to procure the replacement foam you sourced for the rear deck? (True to you observations, it deteriorated on my Boxer.)
