Hi All, Thanks for your comments, I am glad you are enjoying it. Next update. This update focuses on the reconditioning of the cylinder heads. The heads were in good condition except for one area, the inlet manifold runners to head join. I think what has happened is that the gasket began to fail and water began to leak into the inlet runners. Someone then possibly put a liquid gasket sealer into the coolant system to 'plug' the leak. This probably didn't stop the leak and hence, the car was taken off the road and the engine removed. The heads were sent to a machine shop to be cleaned and dressed. The exhaust valve guides were replaced with new ones as they were 'out of spec' but the inlet ones were still 'in spec'. I saw no reason to put excess or additional stress on the head replacing the inlet valve guides if they are 'in spec'. New valve stem oil seals were fitted all round. New solid stem valves were also installed all round. Finally, the valves springs and buckets were re-installed. Image Unavailable, Please Login Head gasket surface is in good condition. Hi All, Next update for you. This time around I was working on making brake hoses, getting new keys made and installing a new clutch. The rubber hoses that are available on the market are about £35 each and last maybe a couple of years. With this in mind, I decided to raid my racing toolbox and make stainless lines. These come in at about £25 each and last much mcuh longer...and don't expand so give quite a good pedal feel. When I got the car, it had no keys, so to rectify this, I took out the ignition barrel and door locks and had new keys cut. Now I can fire up the electrics in preparation for the long awaited start. To finish, I insalled a new cluctch kit (friction plate, pressure plate, throw out bearing and re-ground flyweel). I then put on the bell housing with the obligatory loctite. Enjoy the pics. Very nice work and project. You look to be a talented guy. This will be a very rewarding project for sure. Did you saw the one that sold for $66,000.00 US in bring a trailer yesterday ? It was a very nice exemple but I think the Mondials are now starting to be recognized for the nice little car they are. I owned one for a while and now thinking about another one. I love them. Will follow your project.
Nice project Ian! Not sure if you put the komma on the right place but do you mean £24,194.73 Or a figure around 2,500 GBP?
@JLF I'm glad you are liking it. @godabitibi thank you for the compliment, it is a rewarding project. I didn't see the Mondial on BAT but I'm pleased to see values rising. @MvT I wish I had the comma in the wrong place, unfortunately the total at the time of writing was £24,194.73 (more now!). @Turbo-man Netherlands Hello from Northern Ireland and I'm glad you are enjoying the restoration. @DHC I am glad you are liking the series, if you have any questions, please ask. Hi All, Long time no post! The car has been at the bodyshop for the last few months and good progress is being made. Below are some photos of what has been happening. Enjoy!
