Electrical is especially complex on these cars and will be fully sorted. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chris, this is fantastic. Thank you for sharing the restoration process with us. I'm a huge early 928 fan and have to say that you have a lovely car. Good luck with the resto/refresh and keep the updates coming!
Subscribed! Saw this car when I visited Jim's shop in August. Already looked like a great example. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Subscribed as well, this is one to watch for any quality restoration fan and certainly for those of us who are 928philes. Inaugural '78 928 was a groundbreaking design, so many elements copied for decades in the future. Knowing the kind of owner and enthusiast that is Chris, this will be a very fun thread and future award winner when completed. Jim is terrific, great hands and expertise to steward this project. Cheers, Chris! Lots of pictures of the process, please!
Agreed! And thank you! Your restoration of the Minerva blue 78 is certainly an inspiration. I will post photos as I receive them from Jim. He may join up as well to answer questions and offer insight.
so cool Chris ! Really looking forward to the restoration of this iconic car...thanks for taking the time to share the pics. Will be a real treat 😎
Great car. An appreciating classic for sure. I finished a 944s2 cab restoration a few years ago and I love driving that car. Plus the clutch is perfect for teaching my son how to drive a manual. Porsche made some great cars back in the day.
man, and I thought I was gonna be the first with a "Risky Business" comment. What a great thread! Mind you a 928 is so much car for the $. Hopefully one day they will be collectible and people will start saving them.
I love the early factory pics from '77 when these cars were first built, and I gobbled up anything I could read about them. then I saw it in person for the first time a few months later and I am still blown away. What an achievement! Exciting to see Chris recreate the magic that was coming out of Porsche in those days. Absolutely Risky Business for Porsche to make that large investment during the Oil Embargo days! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My son has #143, a euro car with 240 hp. It has been in the family since 1984. It's not half as nice as yours, however. Good luck with the restore! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's already happening over here. I know of at least 7 being restored in London alone, including one of mine I would stick some photos here but don't want to highjack the thread. Meanwhile here's how the 5 speed market is currently looking in Britain CCFS - Daily Newsletter
Cool pics, Will! I think I see 241 on the lift in the background. You have to appreciate the German overalls. Haha.
Beau, I've actually spoken to a few people in the U.S. since starting this thread that are getting calls from collectors overseas that are interested in purchasing 928s here in the states. Please feel free to share a few pics of your car on this thread as well.
Chris this is a great thread, nice to see 928's being restored. I would love to find a good original example some day.
Seats have been removed, boxed, and shipped for reupholstering. They will get deeper into the disassembly next week. Image Unavailable, Please Login
