http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/30/10m-testarossa-headlines-upcoming-auction-of-rare-ferraris/ "At its upcoming event in Maranello, RM Auctions will be putting up on the block one of the rarest and most valuable Ferraris in existence: the one-of-a-kind 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa. The car that Phill Hill and Olivier Gendebien drove to victory at Le Mans in '62 has an estimated value between $8-10 million. Not only was it the last Testa Rossa ever built, but it was the only one to feature a 4-liter engine. As if the pedigree were not enough, Hill and Gendebien chalked up their third Le Mans win with this car." Anyone going? C
Im the first picture the engine appears to be offset to the passenger side of the car. Why was this done?
the third attempt in recent times. Being sold by the same company in 2002 for something around 6.5 million, how can they possibly expect $8-10 million?
This is Peter's car - not the same much better looking. Took it at an FCA Mosport event in 83. Peter if you're reading this I still remember riding shotgun. The sound going up the Andretti straight was incredible. Thank you Image Unavailable, Please Login
Probably the most interesting of the Testa-Rossas. Unique. Le Mans winner. But I also doubt they'll reach this price. Too many people are seeing these cars like rolling stock-options...
A pity that it isn't in the Bardinon collection anymore, being loved by it's owner just for what it is: a very special one of a kind car with a great racing history...
Not to worry. I would imagine Mr Bardinon still has his favourite Ferrari. That would be the 250 GTO... CH
I believe it was done so the drivers seat could be lowered and thus lower the center of gravity. An added benefit is, assuming a driver weight of 160 pounds, the offset engine would more nearly balance the weight of the engine and driver side to side. Gramps
Well from $6M to $8M is 30% . Im not sure why this car isnt selling. If i were Shirley or Stroll or Sach or any of the big guys with a networth of a few B, id buy that in a heartbeat.
Not really the 275GTB/2 but the GTB/4 prices have skyrockets. Good for those who drives their cars : the GTB/2 are easier to maintain. The 4-cams are always delicate to adjust.
agreed. however it cant help that unlike most other F cars of the period this one is not really that pretty.
I would certainly defer to a Frenchman... I merely quoted the man himself. When asked which was his favourite Ferrari in a 1989 interview. He said simply about his GTO 'If I could only keep one, it would be this one'. CH
Pierre BARDINON owned 0808 during 28 years, with many other car with greatracing history...and since 2002, it passes from hand in hand in the auction sales... For me, It's the difference between a true collector and simple speculators....
