The differences between the two have not really been noted by many. According to Autocar (below) they state that the two are quite different. Can any that own both comment?

Ultimately, the 16M and the 430 Scuderia are quite different machines. The 16M is a more committed, brutally effective machine, with a more aggressive engine response and better brakes. But while it makes impressively smooth progress on good roads, it’s disturbed by the potholes and broken surfaces typical in the UK. While I’d happily use this car day-to-day in, say, France or Switzerland, in the UK it would more of handful and rather better as a pure track day car.
The 430 Scuderia, with its stiffer body, has slightly more accurate steering, a better ride on UK roads and the engine is not as manic in its delivery. Overall, as a day-to-day car, it suits the UK roads better than the 16M. But there’s no doubt that as open-top continental tourer, the 16M is an exceptional machine.

Does anybody own both of them, or have spent enough time behind the wheels of both that could confirm or deny this? I thought they were the same mechanically.

I thought they were mechanically the same as well. Maybe the guy doing the write up just thinks it is different because with the top down in a 16m all senses are buzzing for sure! The motor is obviously much louder with no top :)

Kuzi on this board has both. I've read they have different exhausts and I believe intakes. They make different HP as well. There was an article recently that compared all the differences, I just can't remember where I read it.

That's right KZ does. I'm sure he'll chime in soon. 16M is out of this world! :)

I am not aware of any significant technical or functional differences between the Scud and 16M. According to Motor Trend the only "functional" difference is the fitting of different and "unique" intake manifold resonators in order to eliminate some uncomfortable frequencies..........I'm assuming to sweeten the sound. And sweet it most definitely is. From a seat of your pants feel, the 16M feels faster even though I know that its not. But not having any filters between your ears and the engine note makes a world of difference viscerally. I find myself modulating that throttle just to hear the valves open and shut.........even moreso now then in the Scud. A friend who also has a Scuderia told me.........after I passed him..........that the 16M was the best sounding road going Ferrari he has ever heard! I believe him.

I also thought that the gearbox was different in that it was DSG from the Cali rather than an F1 shift from the Scud.
Apparently this was to keep performance the same in spite of the excess weight.

Nope, its the same gearbox as the Scuderia. And thank goodness for that. The Cali DSG gearbox is too smooth for such a car in my opinion. More appropriate for California.

Thanks for you reponses. The scud is just amazing. I always drive mine with the window down just for the soundtrack. Any improvement to that sound has to be sublime.

As for the f1 transmission, I'll take the violence of those gearshifts over the smooth and quick changes of the Cali DSG.

Has anyone seen a more detailed, functional overview of the stereo in the 16M that has the itouch as it's main controller? I've always been curious about that. And yes, I understand the audio is a secondary issue overall! Just curious of how the iTouch is unique and how it functions.

It seems to be that this is not the case on the final cars? As the photos show, the iPod is indeed included, but not quite integrated into the radio as the press intro showed.

Not quite integrated is an understatement. The connector doesn't even charge 3G iphones. Not of much use.

In the 16M there was an option of either having the IPOD integrated into the head unit, or aside so that the original head unit can be used to control the IPOD similar to the Scuderia. The integration of the IPOD into the head unit is a no cost option. The only car I've seen this on is RufMDs 16M. But all 16Ms come standard with an IPOD. I hope this clears things up.

I may be not as up to speed as all of you guys, but I never noticed the single stripe on the 16M vs double of the scud until seeing that side by side pic of Kuzi's cars.

Wikipedia has a decent description- who knows accuracy...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_F430

In the coming weeks I should be meeting up with someone in my town who has a 16M- I can't wait to experience it! I can't beleive how dated the newest 430's and 599 make my dream cars 355/360/550 seem! 10 years ago I would have never believed the technology would have progressed as much as it has as I thought we hit a point of deminishing returns with the 5 valve head of the 355/360 and 485 HP 550 maranello- boy was I wrong! The F1 in the 599 I drove was amazing, and I expect the scud F1 and 430 to be the same. 60 millisecond shifts!! (stated another way, 0.06 seconds!)

You didn't receive the IPOD in that really cool alcantara presentation case??? If you didn't I would go straight back to your Dealer and request it. As far as I'm aware, all 16Ms come with that. You can see it in RufMDs thread above or I'll take pics when I get home tonight.

Nope!! I'll do!! Never seen a alcantara presentation case! I just asked a few weeks ago if it was possible to install the ipod/itouch afterwards. Their answer was that it is probably possible but till this time no final confirmation.

Besides the grocery store type of outings, how often do you find yourself driving either car?

I don't take them to the grocery store. In fact I very rarely go to the grocery store. :)

And therein lies the problem. Not enough time to enjoy them all. However, the weekend I picked up the 16M, we were immediately 4 day, 600-700 mile round trip drive to the Oregon Coast.
