At our Dino Meeting last weekend was a Dino Spider with these wheels. See here some pictures from the red Spider with 16" wheels and 205/55R16 tyres compared to the blue Spider with oeiginal 14" wheels. What do you think? All other things equal a "plus 2" wheel tire package will ride noticably rougher than the original set up. The original side wall height was part of the ride design. It will yield better handling...maybe....and better rubber availabilty for sure.
here is another set of superformance wheels, they fit better on the 246 than on the spider Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't own a Dino, but those larger wheels look great. Given the poor selection on the smaller wheels for all of these vintage cars, this is one elegant solution to the problem (pun intended).
Sorry to dissagree but I think the balance of proportions is not right, there is too much wheel, not enough rubber.I understand its each individuals taste but generally speaking the designers in those days got it right.
Don't like either one. Call me a purist, but these cars are beautiful, and look stunning without messing with the wheel/tire package. as to the limited selection of tires?? Pffft... Call Coker tire and spring for the right ones. After all, these cars are worth 2-3X what a 360 is worth and you don't hear those guys complaining about $400+ dollar rear tires. Well, ok, maybe they complain a little. But a set of four tires for a 360 run $1400 or more, isn't your Dino worth that? Dave
I bought DinoDan's tires and wheels. Haven't had the heart to put them on yet. I figured it might be fun to try them for a blast thru the mountains, but not to leave on. Kinda like having a set of track tires. Not to mention the whole package, tires in good shape and wheels, was about the cost of 2 Coker tires.
On this car the wheel tyre combo suits it , but this is because its been lowered the whole thing has a different `look`, a moded more updated look rather than the original look,I quite like it .
Just wanted to add that I think the Dino chromadora design does not look good larger whereas some different wheels do.
Does anyone know the name of the green paint on the Dino in your pic? We've stripped down my father's 246 GTS and it appears that this was its original color, (it was painted yellow in the seventies). Thanks!
It`s Verde Germoglio 20-G-465. Despite it was a standard colour starting with M-series production, only 69 Dino 246 GT/GTS were original painted with this colour. I got one of them #01406. What`s your chassis no.? Regards Matthias
Thanks for the info. Chassis # is 07286. What do you think of the color? I Can't really tell from the pics if it's flattering or not for this car. We were planning on painting it yellow again but maybe we should find a Verde Germoglio car to look at before we move ahead.
I think you need to repaint it in Verde Germoglio, fantastic colour. Private message sent to you. Regards Matthias
I think we'll definitely consider this original color. The main reason I would be hesitant would be that all the great memories I have with the car are of it in yellow. I have pictures somewhere from the day I was born of me in my mother's lap riding home from the hospital in this car. There's numerous other family photos that include this car and of course it's yellow in all of them. But the rarity and originality of the green might be a fun change. We'll see.
I think the larger wheels and more modern tires look great on both the Fiat and Ferrari Dinos. If I still had mine (had a Fiat Dino and a Ferrari Dino), I would love to have a set or two for driving, and keep the originals, naturally. Taz Terry Phillips
As some of you know, I was lucky enough to find DinoDan's old car, a new home back in the UK, where it was originally supplied. Since getting it back I have really fallen of this colour and attach two more picture to encourage Enzodually to consider the original colour for his car. I don't like the Superformance 16 inch wheels either. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
