Robert M. Grossman was a major sports car dealer in Nyack, NY/USA.

For the 1959 Bob Grossman was an authorized dealer Jaguar, Volkswagen and possibly Alfa-Romeo. In my opinion these were no real "sports cars", but in any case this does not explain why Grossman order the 1451 GT. May be hy was very impressed by his first California, 0939 GT and agreed with Chinetti's idea to race in Le Mans with more lighter and powerful Competizione version?

In other words I would love to know "step-by-step" story about way to Le-Mans for the 1451 GT.

    1. From whom idea to start in Le Mans 1959 comes? Chinetti or Grossman? The answer is: Chinetti. This point was clrarified by Boudewijn at the previous page.
    2. From whom idea to start in Le Mans with California Competizione comes? Chinetti or Grossman? And in which reasons?
    3. The date for 1451 GT order at the Ferrari? In late 1958 when Chinetti approached Grossman to race at Le Mans or in early 1959?

1451GT was the first California with the outside plug 128F engine. Is a Comp engine and has tipo 130 camshafts with 10mm elevation, 40DCL6 Webers x 3 with Velocity Stacks.

Were the early outside plug 128F engines actually 128D/F?

I know that but now we see the 128D engine under hood as reads from chassis plate

The engine in 1451GT is clearly an outside plug engine. 250GT LWB Interim Competizione 1519GT also has an outside plug engine but the chassis plate says tipo 128D and the engine is said to be tipo 128D/F or 128DF.

1519GT is also said to have been originally fitted with an inside plug tipo 128D engine, which would match the plate, and later factory fitted with the outside plug (tipo 128DF?) engine.

The Report from the Classiche Red Book for 1519GT confirms the tipo 128DF engine but says it is the original one and has NOT been replaced. IF that is the case then the F of 128DF is not stamped on the plate as may have been the case on 1451GT.

A number of sources state the engine tipo of 1451GT as 128F which are said to have been copied from factory documents. I wonder if the engine tipo was actually 128F or 128DF???
