The blue cars are my favorite!! My 5 year old will absolutely not let me buy anything other than a RED Ferrari!! She saw me looking at an off color GT4 recently and said, "Dad, you CANNOT buy that Ferrari-car, it's not red!!! I really like JF308's color though Blu Chiaro is my favorite. A few years back I was this close (-) to buying a Blu Chiaro 328 from a buddy....But we had just moved to Indiana and 2 house payments (that ended up lasting 15months) negated any thoughts of buying that car.
+1 Close to Bruin and real close to Florida colors. Got you guys in one pool and UCLA in my other one. Good luck in the regional finals! Jeff PS: Doesn't UNC look like crap tonight!
Uh Oh, that doesn't sound good. Am I getting a reputation as a prick, or as a guy who knows these cars well? I sure hope it is the latter; if not I'm going to change the tone of my public posts. I sure don't want to be known as a bad guy. I thought I was the only guy who felt that way. I looked for months and passed on 3 or 4 nice cars before I found the blue one I bought. ...and yes we've talked about this car before.
I couldn't agree more. Have you ever seen a blue boxer? Whoaaa!! All Ferraris look good in blue - ths GT4 is no different.
1975 #10626 1986 owned by T. Brown (CA), 7/90 for sale S. Davis (CT) $33.5k, 7/06 3rd owner for sale in Hemmings (CT) engine rebuilt Bill Pollard at Sport Auto, 3/07 for sale Paradice Motors (CT) 74k miles, car has boxer trim Not gonna pick it apart......a little gun shy from above.
It's the latter, your expertise is always welcome. Just a joke on my part that came out poorly. Please, pick away!
Got it! Not poor at all...telling someone's tone is always tough in text. Glad I haven't offended anyone.
If Pollard rebuilt the motor that is a real plus. He is one of the best in the country. I'd want to see proof of that. No Dino badges, too bad It has been repainted. He says original, nope! That boxer trim is wrong, check out the "stripe" I'd call Raod and Track Motorcars in NY. Looks like they sold it once. Oh man! Check out the dirt and wear on the driver's seat bolster. Carpeting looks new from the photos. Even the back seats are pretty dirty or beat up, can't tell which. Non OE wires Look at the crud between the vapor hose and the firewall. Is it dirt or rust? Good can of carb cleaner wouldn't hurt. Yep, that engine bay needs a good cleaning. That might be the residue from a blown water hose with rusty water in it all over the firewall. Shampoo trunk carpet. Factory tool kit; now thats worth a few bucks. Look at the mess around the battery. That is the CORRECT pouch and manual ($1,000+) Spending all of 2 minutes looking at it I'd say if Pollard really did the motor you'd have a mechanically sound car that needs a bunch of cosmetics. I like the blue/creme color combo (but don't listen to me, afterall I just bought an Fcar in that combo) but the interior is in need of some serious attention.
Are you absolutely positive about that "stripe"? I've one Series 1 GT4 in person that has boxer paint and it also had that little stripe just above the black boxer paint. To me, it looks re-painted for a few other reasons then just that stripe (rear of engine bay shows some white, maybe original color? or prior repaint then back to original?) I can't remember if the pictures on ebay show the original paint code sticker. Anyway, maybe its just an "artist add on", but, as mentioned, at least 1 other series 1 (blue / boxer) also had that stripe. James in Denver Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought a lot of the early boxer paint jobs were done in the US by the dealers.... Someone had the directions from Ferrari of Italy to the dealers in the US as to how they should apply the boxer scheme.... Assuming that some of these early cars were done in this manner, it is not hard to believe that there could be some inconsistency.... The white looks like reflection....
There are some other telltale signs. Having said that; am I 100% positive? No, not 100%, afterall I'm just looking at pictures. But a few spots show the signs of a re-paint. And think about it; 30+ year old car with 75,000 miles and the original paint looks like that? Don't think so. A re-paint isn't a bad thing. Most 30+ year old cars have been re-painted at LEAST once. When I look at a car to buy in my mind I don't deduct from the car because of a re-paint.
That stripe, I believe, looks correct. There was a instruction bulletin from Ferrari about how to do this. Also I have a factory sales brochure which depicts a red/boxer trim gt4 that also has this stripe.
I thought so. . . . Hey, I'm catching up with DStacy . Maybe one day, I'll actually buy one. James in Denver
Its not just the stripe that gives it away, although I suspect it. Those of you who've been around know that no 2 classic Fcars were ever built the same. Close? Yes. But never the same. You think GT4's have quirks? Try 400i's. I've counted 27 different combonations of just wheels, grilles, fog lights, & rear panels. "hey luiggie, shes a no look like the last car youa painta." "Guisepie, howa many timesa I havea to tell you, I'm an atrtista, she's a Ferrari. Somea the samea, somea differente'." You guys want me to disect a car? Take a look at this one. I don't even know where to start: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-DINO-308-GT4-1975-FERRARI-DINO-308-GT4-2-2-BLACK-BEAUTY_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6212QQitemZ120101679107QQrdZ1
I can scan a factory photo from a press release that shows NO stripe if you'd like. (see my above post about no 2 cars alike)
LOL, and the accent and all, good .... LOL As commented in the other thread, the dino badge is correct, but are the hub caps? James in Denver
