Is that a lot compaired to other wheels like the aftermarket 16"s? How much extra is the tyre?

That is a pretty good (low) weight. The original tires weighed approx. 27 lbs (from other numbers I've found). Newer tires tend to weigh less (Kumho offers 2 different 205x70R14 tires that weigh ~20 lbs each). Tire weights can be found fairly easily on a manufacturers website, or by calling them directly.

I've been trying to find weight info for many wheels, and have had a hard time... but its coming along. When I get more info compiled, I'll be sure to post it.

Superformance said their 5-Spoke Repro Wheels weigh:
16"x7" QV Superformance (aluminum): 9.0 kg (19.8 lbs)
16"x8" QV Superformance (aluminum): 9.4 kg (20.7 lbs)

I dont have original 16" wheel data yet.

I've only been compiling 16" r-compound tire data so far. The average tire weight is 22.4 lbs for 205x55R16 and 23.5 lbs for 225x50R16.

Watching weight in a wheel / tire combination when looking for a new setup can be more helpful than some think. Saving 5 lbs on a corner saves 20 lbs on the overall weight of the car, reduces unsprung weight by 20lbs, and reduces rotational inertia (by how much varies by weight distribution in the wheel / tire).

100% agree. Rims should weight about 1 lbs per inch (i.e. 16-inch rims should weight 16 lbs). Also agree about keeping the combined rim/tire weight low.

I know this is an old thread... I recently acquired a set of 14" x 7.5" Cromodora 5 spoke wheels (1977 build date), and they are 13.2 lbs. Could they be magnesium?

All of the early 70s wheels are what is called "high magnesium" content.

They are an aluminum alloy containing magnesium.
But, as you see from our corrosion problems if not properly primed, later wheels moved to a different alloy, and they got heavier.

I have some OEM 16"s, I guess as I mail the luggage I could throw each one on the scale for data!

Only the racing wheels, and many gearboxes, were pure magnesium (which will burn!!) and if not coated, they are all white dust by now.
Never meant for longevity, they were going for pure performance of the casting vs. weight
