I recently picked up a 75' 308 gt4 and I need to replace the 14 inch 225 tires. I see nothing available but white lettered bf goodrich. Any help would be appreciated.
The original size would have been 205/70 14 - Michelin XWX - google and/or see threads by sponsor Longstone Tyres See previous threads (try 'search this forum' top right on XWX) for possible alternatives in your market
I've got Fulda tyres on mine, which look correct and seem to work well enough, but steer well clear of the BFG's. Paul
To repeat - the original size would have been 205/70 14 and it would have been a Michelin XWX so they should be your target tyre Are the Fuldas V rated?
+1 Look at the Fulda Carat Assuro...Goodyear brought a set into America for me, made in Germany, not sold in all markets. Yes V rated.
Also available in Europe Vredestein Sprint Classic 205/70-14 91 V , original equipment for Benz and BMW sport coupe's.
I have Vredestein Sprint Classics 205/70-14 91 V on my 78 308 GTS. Not as expensive as Michelins. I like the looks and the sidewall is fairly clean. The performance is excellent-it does everything a high performance tire is supposed to do. I personally think these cars feel better with these 14 inch, high performance tires. They have a nice blend of performance and comfort and they look period correct. When these cars were designed the size and type of tire was definitely part of the overall specification for performance, braking, handling and suspension. It may be easier to put larger tires on the car, but something is lost, especially comfort. By comfort, I mean the ability to soak up road irregularities without jarring the suspension components and frame, but still handle very tightly and predictably. If you are going to track the car, then I can see stiff, low profile rubber. These Vredestein Sprint Classics are great tires and more than enough for anything I will ever do on the street. If you are going to keep the 14 inch tires, go for the high performance tires, Michelins or Vredesteins. Not having high performance tires on your 14 inch rims is like having two cylinders not working on your engine. It will run and be OK, but never reach its potential and its not what Ferrari intended when it left the factory.
The tire that originally came on the 308's were Michelin 205/70VR14 XWX. I just bought a set for my '79 GTS from Coker Tires. Michelin does a special run of these tires every few months, so you may have to wait a bit to get them. Not cheap....about $500 each, but if you want your car to be original, spend the money and do it right.
Goodyear radial T/A is blackwall on opposite side and is available in correct size. All four tires mounted and balanced for less than one xwx mailed to you. It's not v rated but is a fine tire.
Michelin has 205/70/14 tires for 105 a piece. They are t rated up to 120mph. Hard to find performance tires in that size. I searched the tire size and came up with a few options. I would go with Michelin over the rest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I purchased these Vredensteins in July this year. https://www.tiresbyweb.com/p-12284-vredestein-sprint-classic-tires.aspx They were 1144.80$, delivered in four days. I think they are located here in Michigan so it may take a few more days to get to Ca. I am very happy with them. They seem to be a good quality tire. Marc
Vredesteins are good if you have a daily driver car. If you have a high quality, show grade car, it must have the original Michelin XWX tires. It's amazing, owners go bananas about having the exact correct tools in their tool kit, but put completely incorrect tires on their car.
Just some more data. I got sick of hunting down tires, and didn't want the XWX, so I just got some Sumitomo 205-70/HR14. The GT4 is pretty powerful and out-drives those tires with little effort. If the Vredsteins work well, I think that's a "find". I didn't consider them during my hunt.
Hi Try the new Cinturato 205/70WR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 | Longstone Tyres it is W rated as is the XWX 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX | Longstone Tyres there are other tyres that size but nothing i would consider
