#1 show me where I personally recommended any of those? did Donnie just have banners showing up in Matt's YouTube ads or did Matt personally recommend him and even continue to do so today? #2 when have I ever supported someone, even just advertising, after being thrown in jail and convicted for things that could negatively impact our users? #3 I have been as hateful on John as anyone, because he skipped on money he owed us. I continue to hate on Intercity and recommend users don't use them because they might get screwed. CNC had similar negative attention to what Donnie is getting now and long after they were a Sponsor here. I didn't protect them and make excuses like Matt is doing for Donnie, as of today still. You are in dangerous territory trying to compare my ethics and business practices to how Matt is handling Donnie the last year.
Guys, with all due and much respect, and speaking as a relative newbe here, I think it's best for everyone to keep on topic. You two might want to take that offline. It's getting a little personal. Hope I'm not out of line here. Apologies if I overstepped.
I think you are comparing apples and oranges here, and it doesn’t work. You are making the argument that Rob (who for the record I don’t know) has “provided a forum for scammers to do business” but your definition of what that means is so broad one could practically just say anyone waking up in the morning is providing a forum. YouTube is providing a forum, the internet is proving a forum, etc etc. I guess maybe you’re seeing it as a fun existential exercise but in reality it is not a serious argument. Again, Matt was told explicitly and in great detail over a period of years what Donnie was doing. And he chose to continue promoting Donnie for what amounts to compensation (ie- discounted rates). The only equivalent would be if several people wrote directly to Rob and said, with evidence, “hey this person who advertises on your forum is ripping people off, and Rob not only allowed the ads to continue but personally chimed in as to how trustworthy and talented they were. Simply running an Internet forum isn’t even in the same ballpark. Come on.
I just listened to Farrah’s podcast and now, unlike before, I am genuinely pissed off at him. He spent the first half of his “Donnie talk” playing devils advocate and flatly lying about the fact that he had no idea these things were happening in real time, when as stated, myself and others told him. I told him at least twice. He obfuscates this by talking about his willingness to overlook someone’s past, and his (possible) need to reassess their relationship now that “all this has come out”. But both he and his co-host repeatedly state they had no idea about these things in real time. I don’t know about the co-host but Farrah either has early onset dementia or he is flat out lying. Then he pivots to claim “all” messages to him about Donnie were a coordinated smear campaign and had a threatening overtone. Which is 100% not true. I’m tempted to publish our Dm exchange. If anything I bend over backwards to be polite and say I’m not blaming him for anything, and end by wishing him well on a business venture. It’s just insane. But worse is what they pivot to next….Matt talking about how lucky he is to have extracted his car from a garage that may in fact be a crime scene (aside - isn’t that evidence tampering?). Anyway, it’s just all about him and his needs and what he’s going to have to pay now that he’s not getting Donnie’s discounted rates. Forget admitting fault. He doesn’t even have it in him to say “I feel really bad for anyone who got taken or had a bad experience with Donnie, especially if they were inspired to go to him because of me”. The one thing I do get now is why they get along so well. They both embody pure selfishness. Really disappointing.
Anyway, for the gentleman who was suggesting we all wait to see how Matt responded…we just did. He plays down the nature of Donnie’s crimes, leaving some out, then suggests that regardless of whether or not he committed crimes, poor Donnie is actually the VICTIM of a terrible smear campaign by anonymous malevolent forces, and then settles back and congratulates himself for saving his own butt. He and Donnie were made for each other.
Not sure how much his reputation will be damaged. We'll see. His reputation is certainly taking a big hit in our circles. But our circles are small. I don't know how much we matter to him. If you Google this topic, not much comes up except (a) the initial Bloomberg article and a handful like it, and (b) a few reddit threads that seem populated with interested, but uninformed observers. These threads on FChat seem to be the only places where this fiasco is being analyzed and unpacked by people with actual knowledge of the situation. So, unless he seeks out these threads, the average car guy may never realize that Matt had ample warning about Donnie. They may just shrug and say, "wow, that's crazy" without stopping to question Matt's judgment.
People actually listen to Matt Farah? I clicked on that video and saw it was 2 hours long and that was it. What do you people do that you have 2 hours to listen to a Youtube video. Get an effing life.
Ha, I’ve never listened to 2 hours of Matt talk about anything. There was a hyperlink to the part where they discuss Donnie, which was at around the 35 min mark for those interested. Effing life intact. But thanks for caring. lol
I cannot imagine anyone with too many brain cells being a regular listener to his show so most of that was to make his own conscience feel better.
I just listened to the "Donnie" section of that podcast. My take aways: Matt Farah is a piece of crap! I will never waste my time listening to him again! He is an egocentric thug! Takes no responsibility for his part in this situation! Blames everyone else but Donnie! I am grateful I had no idea who he was before this! Can I get the last 30 min. of my life back? LOL
Sounds like an equally influential Youtuber needs to talk about the other side of the story. It will gain traction then. I'd gladly offer my channel but with only 10K subscribers and a focus on barns, lumber, and sawmills, it would probably make things worse and actually help Farah.
He was lucky to get it out of there and double lucky to sell before the Donnie saga broke into the open. I wouldn’t own any car I could afford if it had Donnie DNA on it.
