Can you imagine mechanical service costs of the 328 to total $130k ? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1988-328-gts-restored-by-donnie-callaway.682254/
A normal mechanic around here is $100/hr, I suppose a specialist is triple that, so that's about 400-450 hours of time, if you spent nothing on parts. Start adding in parts costs and the time starts dropping. I personally couldn't see putting that much into a GTS. However, I could see the number as plausible -- if you just dropped it off and said "fix everything." Receipts would tell the real story.
I spent a lot less on my 89 328, and Ill bet its better than this one. Good grief, you can buy a second Ferrari for that kind of money, either the guy got ****ed, or its ********...My car has 105 k miles, and everything and then some has been done to maintain , up keep, and to restore . The interior is the only thing that can be refreshed . My engine runs like its new, and all I have done is the normal 3 x8 stuff, like valve adjustment and belts and whatnot .I have 2 sets of wheels and tires for it as well as a second targa top thats painted the color of the car. G
I can think of a ton of stuff that I have done to up keep refresh and maintain the car, and it still wont add up to half of that. G
^This! It reminds me of a Mondial that was posted on BaT a couple of years ago: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-ferrari-mondial-3-2-5/ . $140K had been spent on it (including a rebuilt motor). Personally, I wouldn't EVER consider using a shop that was willing to rack up that level of invoices/charges on a car unless there was significant work involved. IMO, it borders on criminal or at least not ethical. 2cam
I meticulously maintain my 1995 355 GTS <more expensive to maintain than a 328> with Ferrari of Denver only <arguably more expensive than independents- But not really> have owned the car since 2010- spent nowhere near that- Something is amiss
The primary place to see the $50k and up repair bill on a recent Ferrari is the 355 forum. When I was considering a 355 a decade ago, a car I was considering had a recent $96k bill which included no major drivetrain issues. And that didn’t seem to shock anybody. Of course the car I bought is no stranger to the local mechanics, it averages $6,500 a year but fortunately has gone up in value 3X. Enjoying my Jeep, how is yours doing? I appreciate your help on that.
And it is the internet that has brought that about. Prior to internet chat rooms these stories were rare to the extreme. Now people come here and here the stories and come to the shop prepared for really outlandish prices. I could easily double prices and still come in well under the expectations of most. Trust me, there are a great many shops out there that have been very happy to live up to the prices people throw around in this place for pretty routine stuff.
Present company not included, but frankly , Ferrari shops have a license to steal. I have been pretty fortunate when it comes to my 328 for repair and maintenance. I will be taking it to the dealer for a test pipe / cat swap for smog as well for an oil change. I know they have a high hourly rate, but Im ok with what I have to get done there. G
Yeah fortunately appreciation is offsetting maintenance costs Jeep is awesome, Glad you are enjoying yours as well- Cheers
Seller posted receipts https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149300294/ and buy same part twice, ' circuit board $1800.00 9/25/22 $2100.00 1/12/23 As one buyer I see so many things replaced, what is original remaining? Major engine work labor $7800.00 9/25/22 Then many wiring cost $2675.00 Engine wire harness $975.00 Ignition wires $1100.00 Battery power cables
No, is celebrity, Hollywood prices Recall that everyone business is recovering from COVID and customer pay
I'm reminded about that Leno bit about wealthy men and a dominatrix when asked why he doesn't own Ferraris
In the case of valve shims that is less than Ferrari list price for most but why replace every one? 5 or 6 maybe. You can convince clients of many things not needed, thats easy. but $6500 for a valve adjustment? $3200 to clean the engine? Is his labor rate $800 per hr? Did he use a gun to collect that bill? And if that really is his invoice it violates California law in a great many ways. Legally it is uncollectable.
Please tell me this is a joke...? The shop charged USD 14,000 in labor just for the front suspension + approx USD 10,000 in parts. That's almost USD 25,000 just to redo the front suspension?
