With gas prices risng rapidly, racing fuel at $6 per gallon doesn't seem so crazy. There's a Union Gas at the corner of 56th St and Bell that has a racing fuel pump. I think there's also racing fuel available at Cave Creek and Union Hills, for greater Phoenix residents.
Is there any quantifiable benfit to running 100 octane gas, or even mixing it it into half a tank of 91 octane?

Is the answer different for fuel injected cars versus carb cars?

Alex, I know NOTHING about it, but i suspect one benefit for a car like one of urs (F40) would allow a boost pressure increase without knocking...no?:)

We had a thread about this in the SoCal section - I run 1/3 tank of 100 octane in my Eurospec 380SL in the summer to prevent detonation and it def. works. In theory the EFI cars should have the computer dealing with the A/F mix although it depends a bit on the generation of computer and the tunability thereof. In a carb car it ought to let you get more aggressive with timing with more octane. I've not run the 100 in my 348 or the Porsche as they are both US EFI.

    Cheers

Most of the Union stations that are selling 100 Octane here are less than $6.
I think it's a good deal compared to the dollar amount 91 has gone up.
Alex, Your F40 will LOVE 100 octane. Mine does. Just a 20% mix makes a big difference. With the stock motor we saw an increase of 45 rear wheel H.P. I believe the F40 was designed to run on 93 Octane. Anything less and the ECU's will reduce timing and boost.
It will also help with Carb equiped cars. Especially with the idle quality. 91 octane (modern fuel in general) has so many oxygenates in it that it has a very low spacific gravity and requires much more fuel to allow an engine to run. Adding 100 will help with this.

Thanks Rick. I'm going to put some into the F40 this weekend and I'll definitely put a few drops into my 77 carb 308 GTB. My son is learning to drive stick in it and anything that helps the car keep running as a 15 year continuously dumps the clutch too quickly, will help.

What about running oxygenated racing fuel?

Would that help against detonation while still improving performance?
