The Veyron does not actually make 1001 horsepower. It makes 1001 PS, which is the metric equivalent. final production SAE horsepower rating is 987. Close, but no cigar. Still has the record for top speed (I think it was verified by the Guinness folks).

Bugatti never said they were making a 1000hp car the started they were gonna make a 1000ps car and a bunch of magazines stupidly mistook it for 1000hp and printed it every where

Isn't this thread in the wrong area? The Veyron's built in France.

If there is one brand where saying this is pointless, Bugatti has to be it. The founder was italian. The manufacture is in France. Its history lies in Italy. Its engineering is german. And the funds are german as well.

Well Italy can't have all the sought-after cars on the planet, they have to give some other countries a taste of perfection.....France gets Bugatti and Germany gets Lamborghini......... share and share alike :D

    Actually it's 987 horsepower. That's SAE/BHP....the 1001 is PS.

Bugatti Veyron road test in the latest Autoweek:

    0-62 in 2.5
    0-125 in 7.3

And I don't rembemer the numbers but 0-186 (300 kmh) in about HALF the time of the Carrera GT! The Veyron in something like 18-19 seconds.

This sounds like the quarter mile in the low 10's.

(These numbers are very close to those of the Suzuki Hyabusa.......amazing)

I'm starting to like this car.

I hear that this car just never stops accelerating until well over 200!

BTW, the pres of Bugatti said each car actually has more like 1020-1040PS.
