My wife just got three quotes on her 2005 Volvo S40, and they were all $1,000 and up, per year !!!
that's with 500 deduct, comprehensive coverage, 35 years old no tickets/accidents.

Does this seem high ??? I about fell out of my chair when she told me !!

(It's with Farm Bureau, also checked Cotton States)

Anyone use Gieko ? Or any other nationwide discount firm ?

I pay $1,100 for an old 924 and only pay $ 1,500 on a 540. So when it comes to insurance it seems to be a crap shoot.

Hmm, I pay around $1,100 for a 2003 Mercedes G500 - $500 deduct, comprehensive coverage, uninsured motorist, umbrella, and everything else they had. I'm also 22 years old.

I find that insurance varies drastically depending on location. When I lived in Manhattan, my insurance was around $5,000 a year; rural PA went down to around $1,600; now i'm in Durham, NC, and it's at $1,100.

Go with a $1,000 deductible. You would never turn in a $800 claim so why pay for the coverage?

I dunno what state you're in (it matters) but that seems like a pretty decent quote for the deductible, especially if you have high liablity limits, which I'm sure you do.

1200/year on a 98 grand prix 400 deductible. Through AAA I get a 30% discount for being a member of a certin credit union so that brought it down and im 21

21 yrs. old and I pay $1800/yr for a 2005 honda civic, wtf???

No tickets or accidents, and that is the best quote I got coming from Progressive.

Is it b/c Civics are stolen a lot or b/c I'm young or combo?

It's your age. In TX, you won't see relief until you're 25.

The Civic is a good car for someone your age, from a cost of insurance standpoint. A 2005 Civic won't likely get stolen because most cars are stolen for the parts. A 1989 Civic is much more likely to be stolen, because there is a higher demand for used parts, but even 1989 civics are still cheap to insure.

It completely matters where you live ... this question is useless to anyone living outside of your zip code. I paid $3200 a year for my '01 325 coupe back in '01, living in Jersey. Paid $3600 a year for my 2002 BMW K1200LT (motorcycle), living in Brooklyn. I recently picked up an excellent condition grocery getter and child-hauler (got a new son at home), a '98 Subaru Forester and I was paying $2K a year for that and considered myself lucky (Progressive wanted $4K, so $2K from Geico was a steal). I just closed on a larger home (again, new son at home) two days ago in Hartsdale, NY and according to Geico, my premium is dropping to under $500 a year for the same car.

Also, value of a vehicle matters much more than whether its a performance car or not. For the person with the 924 and 540, the 540 is considerably newer and worth more yes? A 2005 Volvo is still worth north of $30K, so $1K a year is NOTHING. Imagine owning an 8 year old vehicle with 120K miles worth about $6 that you're paying $2K a year for =)

    Bill in Brooklyn (actually, Hartsdale)
