I just saw this at mecum auction in kansas city. Any guess on value? I heard history is questionable. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Betz and Peters reconstruction with body by Beckman. Lead car in Monterey on Mecum website. Suspect they sold it to Mecum for good $. Looks like Mecum may again be getting more aggressive in buying inventory for Monterey. In any case bring on the Carney.
Very interesting car. Will be fascinating to see what Mecum can do since RM failed to sell the car in Monaco two years ago.
According to Barchetta, the entire car is a recreation - only the front cross member is original to 0362AM. 0362AM (0362/ex0376) 53/oct31 375 MM Spyder PF, RHD PF job no. 12561 (0362AM renumbered to 0374 then to 0382AM) Date Result Event Driver # Reference 53 - Tony Parravano, L.A., CA, USA 54/may/01 Mille Miglia possible 54/jun/06 1st Golden Gate Park Jack McAfee #105C FY54 54/jul/04 1st OA Omaha GP, Offutt AFB Jack McAfee #55 54/oct/17 1st Palm Springs Bob Drake #190 55/mar/13 rear end burned 12h Sebring Jack McAfee #11 55 flipped over Bakersfield Jack McAfee 5. - chassis shortened and new plastic body fitted 5. - 4.2 Maserati engine installed 5. - Frank Arciero, CA, USA 58 Riverside Dan Gurney #69 FAlb p32 59/oct 3rd Laguna Seca Skip Hudson 59/dec/06 Nassau Memorial race Skip Hudson #100 59/dec/06 dnf Nassau Trophy Skip Hudson #100 .. - parts only with Bob Sorell, no engine .. - DK Engineering bought all spares and rear chassis section of the 375 MM, riveted fuel tank, rear chassis section which was not used in the fiberglas bodied car "Reconstruction" 8./early - front cross member only sold to Betz & Peters .. - Charles Betz & Fred Peters, CA, USA 8.-04 - "reconstructed" from a front cross member by Betz & Peters 04/aug/13 The Quail - A Motorsports Gathering, Carmel Valley Charles Betz/ Fred Peters 13/aug/13 Best of Show Concours on the Avenue, Carmel by the Sea Charles Betz/ Carol & Fred Peters C197 p12 375 MM Pinin Farina Spyder 0374AM Pics of the fiberglass body that 0362 had after the crash in '55 are here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/collectables-literature-models/231641-marcel-massini-can-you-help-please.html#post138406738 Some additional background on 0362AM: Gurney finished 2nd in this re-bodied 375 MM #0362AM. I was surprised to learn that he drove this car, later Maserati V8-powered, rather than the beautiful (also re-bodied, but this time by the very skilled artist-in-metal Jack Sutton) #0478AM. 3-9-11 From Andy Dziedzic: "Of course you are right, this is the very sucessful ex-Parravano 375 MM, with which Jack McAfee won nearly every race he started in. 1st OA at Golden Gate, Offutt AFB, 7th and 8th Palm Springs Road Races. On May 1st, 1955 his maroon Ferrari struck a bale and flipped over at Bakersfield. The car reappeared at Riverside in 1958 with Dan Gurney at the wheel as a member of the Arciero Racing Team. Before Arciero installed a 4.2 litre Maserati Indy engine in this ultra light Mistral bodied Ferrari, the car was most likely fitted with the more powerful 4.9 litre V-12 Ferrari from s/n 0478 AM. Gurney, who drove this car only in this event, managed a very fine 2nd OA only 25 seconds behind Chuck Daigh with his famous Scarab." Yes, the Monaco car was the South American 375MM (0374), which was renumbered in period to 0362. The Mecum car is apparently a reconstruction built from the remains of the Parravano car (originally 0362, renumbered in period to 0374 but subsequently renumbered to 0382).
