Good Morning All - A 2004 silver/blk NSX was just traded to my local Jag dealer. Only a couple of 100 miles on the clock. MSRP 84k - asking 80K. I have never had one of these and am interested in what you all think of them. It looks like it might be fun - if I could get a real deal. Any thoughts as to what is the "steal" price for this NSX? Cheers, st.tully
Kinda makes you wonder why he traded it so soon and with so few miles. I've driven the old style NSX and it is a fun car. I wouldn't buy one, but I like it. For that amount of money I'd probably buy a few other cars. As far as price I'd shoot for 75-76. They probably only gave the guy 70-72 on trade in though....
Everything I have ever heard about the NSX has been very positive. Even though it is under-powered by today's standards, it is still a very well rounded package. Heck, any car that had Ayrton Senna play a role in its development has got to be something special. I would, however, look for one that is a few years old. Specifications have not changed much over the years, and you can certainly spend a lot less on a slightly older car.
** I owned a '95 NSX-T and it was in the shop only 1 time for a major problem. The problem was a coil pack which cost $ 280.00 and some change with labor to repair and get me rolling again. I bought the car with 22k miles and sold it with 57k miles. It was only in the shop for routine services. The car was good rain or shine, never developed leaks and got good gas mileage. When our daughter graduates from high school next year another one will be in my garage. I owned three Ferraris before the NSX. {2-348s and a 355} They were great cars but cost waaay too much to drive frequently. The NSX, wheather you buy a '91 or an '04, if you demand lots of horsepower you will probably not be satisfied. Senna was World Champion more than once and he helped develop a car with only 270hp . That should tell you something. Then in '97 when the NSX-T was fitted with the 3.2 V6 hp jumped only 20hp to 290. In '97 there was the Ferrari 355 with 375 hp. Porsche TT with 400 and neither one were under $ 100 grand. The NSX will hold it's own with lots of different cars. It's handlling is supurb with OEM tires and rims. These guys that are trying to make an NSX look like a toy car with 18's and 20's couldn't possibly drive the car to it's potential. I have not driven the '04 NSX but couldn't imagine it being any better than my formerly owned '95. I agree that if you want the car make an attempt to get the price down in the low to mid $ 70's. If they won't sell it for that price, go to www.nsxprime.com or www.autotrader.com and shop. Good luck ... FAMILY MAN
A realistic price to shoot for would be 75K IMO. The 04 NSX is a great car. If you really need more HP, there are options available. 3 Superchargers and 2 Turbos. SC will run you around 10K and with Turbo the sky is the limit. You can get over 600 HP. Take it for a drive, but really DRIVE it. Redline it on every shift. Nail the brakes hard and pull some corners. It is an amazing car. I don't think you will be dissapointed. As far as the 95 vs a 04, the biggest difference is the 6-speed and 3.2L 290 HP vs 3.0/270. Having driven both, I can say the 6-speed makes the car feel WAY better and the midrange power is much stronger. I hope to sell my 93 in the near future and get a 97. Let us know if you take it for a spin..
I never used to like the NSX just because it wasnt a Ferrari. However, after driving one, that argument doesnt hold any water at all. It is a GREAT car. Very underrated in my opinion. Everything about driving it felt great and even though on paper it doesnt have much power, it MOVES. Especially a newer one. Would I buy one over a Ferrari? For that price I would be able ot get a 355 and just because the 355 is one of my favorite cars, I wouldnt get an NSX over it. However, that doesnt mean its not a fantastic car.
What's with the underpowered myth? They seem pretty d**n fast to me...and I only drove a couple of very early NSX's. The times below are from the following site. 0-60 and 1/4mile. Yeah, yeah, we all know that the numbers can be disputed so please don't post just saying the obvious. However, It can vary for any car, and this gives a decent idea of how closely matched the NSX is to many F-cars http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html 1992 Acura NSX 5.6 13.9 1993 Acura NSX 5.6 13.9 1994 Acura NSX 5.3 13.6 1996 Acura NSX 5.2 13.8 1996 Acura NSX-T 5.8 14.3 1997 Acura NSX-T 4.8 13.3 2002 Acura NSX 4.8 13.4 1967 Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART 6.7 14.7 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB 8.2 17.0 1980 Ferrari 308 GTS 6.9 14.9 1981 Ferrari 308 - Dino GT4 7.8 N/A 1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi 7.9 N/A 1983 Ferrari 308 GTBi Quattrovalvole 6.8 15.2 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS 6.7 15.0 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS 6.9 14.9 1970 Ferrari 330 GTS 6.9 14.9 1995 Ferrari 333 SP 3.6 11.3 1990 Ferrari 348 tb 6.0 14.3 1993 Ferrari 348 tb Serie Speciale 5.6 14.0 1993 Ferrari 348 Spider 5.6 14.1 1998 Ferrari 355 F1 4.6 13.0 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider F1 4.6 13.2 1986 Ferrari 412 6.7 15.0 1994 Ferrari 456 GT 4.8 13.3 1995 Ferrari 456 GT 5.1 13.4 1997 Ferrari 456 GTA 4.9 13.3 1998 Ferrari 456M 5.2 13.5 1978 Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer 5.5 N/A 1982 Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer 5.1 13.5 1992 Ferrari 512 TR 4.7 12.9 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello 4.2 12.7 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina 4.9 13.3 2003 Ferrari 575M Maranello F1 4.2 12.6 1973 Ferrari Dino Spyder 8.8 15.3 1974 Ferrari Dino 7.1 15.5 1995 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta 4.7 12.8 1996 Ferrari F355 Spider 4.9 13.4 1997 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta 4.8 13.2 1992 Ferrari F40 3.8 11.8 1986 Ferrari GTO 5.0 14.1 1982 Ferrari Mondial 8 9.4 17.1 1984 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet 7.6 16.0 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 7.1 15.3 1991 Ferrari Mondial t Cabrio 6.6 15.0 1985 Ferrari Testarossa 5.3 13.6 1986 Ferrari Testarossa 5.3 13.4 1989 Ferrari Testarossa 6.2 14.2 fwiw- C
My dad had one and it was really reliable, as you can expect from a Honda. It was was. It was nice. And reliable. It was picked on, but it was fast. There nice. You should buy. Buy one, you should. Its a good reliable car, thats also fast and nice.
the only thing I know about the NSX is that they are a really, really safe car. After crawling out of one that was upside down, I can say they are safer than I ever thought. I know that's not the first thing you think of when looking to buy a car, but when you need it, it's good to have.
I have a 01 NSX for sale. Great/fast/reliable car but not a Ferrari. Impulse buy 2 weeks ago, got a 355 in-coming. Car: white/camel leather/coupe/290 hp/6 speed (believed to be only 1 of this combo)/7K miles/all records/garaged/mint in NY. $62.5 OBO. email me if anyone is interested ([email protected]). Thanks, Jon
I currently have a 96 and I haven't been disappointed.. Certainly it won't be the fastest car you will drive but it is quick.. For that $ range, I would probably get a 2001 Porsche TT.. I agree with the fact that you can get one used for alot less. The specs haven't really changed except if you really like the bug eye lights. Good luck.
I had a 97, click my SN in my sig and scroll down, also check this out: http://www.epinions.com/content_73301462660 I only sold it because with my admittily slower poorer performing 328, i rarely drove it. I used it as my daily for a while, just could not use it in the NE winters Biggest +: the shifter remains the best EVER. Ask anyone. Biggest -: I personally hate how the clutch grabs, kinda like a porsche does, and much prefer how Ferraris 'just go'.
