I was in the market for a 296 GTS, first used, then ordering. Eventually, while I contemplated a 296 GTS, I bought a gently used F8 Spider. Car arrived and I absolutely loved it. Plenty of power, sound was good for what I wanted, tech all worked, nice and simple. Example I bought came with two year extended manufacturer warranty so car had essentially three years of full warranty.

Just for fun, I took the 296 GTS pricing spreadsheet and I built a 296 GTS that matched the F8 Spider I bought. The 296 GTS MSRP was $70K (18% higher) than the MSRP on the F8 Spider. And while F8 Spider prices are holding steady, at least right now, I still ended up paying considerably less than the 296 GTS.

So you get the same warranty length, same options, just no hybrid, no haptic tech, and a platform that is pretty bullet proof. Now, I do like the looks of the 296 GTS. But I am very weary of the hybrid tech. I don't need a faster car (guess I am getting older).

If you can find an F8 Spider that matches your preferences, there is the potential it could end up having the same warranty and potentially fewer headaches!

  2. But what you don't say (and maybe you don't know) is whether the 296 offers a better driving experience than the F8 (regardless of speed).

I'm not saying it does or doesn't, but I will say the driving experience between the two is quite different. Does that account for the price delta? Only the owners of the respective cars can say for sure.

Fair enough. But the masses seem to be saying the F8 is more desirable. There are 244 296s listed for sale on Ferrari's website. That's on top of the who knows how many new ones sitting at dealers unsold. There are only 96 Ferrari F8s available.

I realized as soon as I posted it anyone with a 296 might take offense. Just stating facts that pricing is pretty darn reasonable for an F8 with an equivalent warranty to a 296.

The 296 is an insanely good car. It does everything extremely well. Like really really well! Drives very differently than the F8 (which is also an amazing car)-- but you are right, I think it won't be long now when 296's are all cheaper than the F8's. It's no secret really. It has happened with every single other brand. The hybrids or EV's just drop so fast. The F8 will sit and hold and maybe even go up a little over time (if the EV thing continues) whereas the hybrid models will keep falling. I hope all brands go back to ICE again. I've heard some brands are saying they will.

After driving the 296...I own a 488 spider...I will say the 296 is a beast. Nimble and quick, pulls like a banchee....Love my 488 but would also love a 296 spider...

What stops me buying the latest rear drive Ferrari is Hybrid.

Don't care how much faster it is.

If I wanted a hybrid or an electric car there are MUCH more cheaper cars to buy and use and then just throw away.

I would love it if sports car companies could go back to ICE. I've had a lot of EVs and they are solid - but they just aren't exciting like an engine is. I totally love our planet, but we need to #savetheicesportscar :)

nope. Desirable is what I meant. But you could also say "valued-correctly". I am not so sure an F8 is collectible - I don't think that way about it. But it is more desirable to people right now based on the lack of hybrid and price-point. If used 296 GTS slashed their prices until they actually sold - now that would be interesting. I tried to buy a few at the price point I thought was right and dealers refused. At least one of them is now priced at that point...still not selling...

As you stated 244 296s for sale listed. I wonder how many more are hidden in the back of the dealerships not listed. As in brand new ones people wound up not closing on.

I bet there are some! ;-)

There are some really good deals on 296 right now....tempting as I was offered a sweet deal on a trade of my F8 for a 296 but naw I am sticking with my F8 plus I fit in the F8 better than the 296 I sat in and to me and others I have spoken with say the F8 is much better looking, more Ferrari looking and exotic over the 296.

I had a real problem in the GTS . I couldn’t get the seat back far enough to be comfortable. I’m sure the coupe would be fine but I’m not a coupe buyer.

I've only sat in a coupe. Leg room seemed almost ok but knee is right in the lower dash but shoulder room is horrible and my head is at the headliner and that hard section inside top of the drivers window is right at my head and would be dangerous in a very hard bumpy turn or accident. I'm 6'4" almost 6'5 and a few other tall guys in the 6'2-6'3" range found the 296 not fitting them well either.

Well. It's a girl car. It's not made for alpha males.
