I’ve used a 5000TL quickjack to service my Testarossa for years with great success. Today I tried to use it to lift my 85 Mondial Cab but as soon as I got the car off the ground it started dangerously teetering and the front was nearly going into the air. I held the front end down while I slowly lowered it. The Testarossa never has this problem and is perfectly stable. Is the Mondial really more rear heavy than the TR?

If anyone uses a quickjack, how do you make it work? From what I see there are only two jack points under the car will work with the quickjacks.

That's interesting that you had an issue with quickjacks. I looked online and the way they lift is similar to how my midrise scissor lift operates (two lifting surfaces on each side push upwards on the bottom of the car between the F and R wheels. I have a 83 coupe and never had any stability issues even with minimal weight on the front (bumper/hood off, bare front spindles, radiator, spare tire, spare tire well, front headlamps, no bumper, etc) and the engine in place. Never felt unstable.

    - I'm wondering if you had the roof up or down. If down, that might have exacerbated any rearward weight bias that is troubling you
    - My lift came witih rubber blocks I placed under the car. I wonder if you can use rubber blocks yourself (or wood even) and potentially, you could place them in such a way to shift the weight bias forward (maybe taller blocks placed at the rear?) I don't think it would matter much BUT I think the difference here is your lift goes up and forwarded whereas mine just lifts straight up.

The top was up. I was also quite surprised I had issues. I’ve lifted multiple cars and never had the slightest issue, however the Mondial wanted to do a backflip. The jacks did come with rubber blocks and I use them. Putting shorter blocks up front might be something to try.

I have the quick jacks and when I first tried to lift my 308, the front nosed up a little (seemed super light) and like it was going to be unstable. So I lowered it and shifted the QJ as far rearward as possible while still being able to find some frame at the front to lift from. It also meant I needed to have the QJax not parallel to each other. The rear ones were further inside to contact the frame member. I also use the black rubber Lego blocks that came with the QJ. Once I scooted the jacks back, it lifted fine and stable. I tried rocking it and it was rock-solid. I think there are some other posts on this forum about that if I recall.

The measured weight distribution of my quattrovalvole with a full tank, spare wheel and tools in the frunk (1'646kg) are 46% front to 54% rear. That's very nicely balanced for a mid-engined car. I don't know why the cab would be very different.

I use my quickjacks on my 1987 cab quite frequently and have never had that problem. Not sure what your issue is due to.

Jarrod is your frunk empty, your trunk and fuel tank full?
