So it was a real non-street legal Challenge car that Stradman drove on the street? I always assumed it was a street F430 modified to a challenge so it had a proper VIN and title. This is very scary, Stradman was driving without registration or insurance on public roads.

I bet he had the assets to exceed any typical policy limit (500/1m or whatever most have now a days).

Scary for someone to be driving without registration?

What are the repercussions of that in the states? Do a lot of people just turn blind eye to this kind of thing and so drivers just take a chance?

Presumably no valid insurance (other than fire/theft) that covers an accident with another road user if the car doesn't have VIN/title?

the amount of cars on the road (usually due to financial inability) that are not registered, have no insurance, or very low levels of insurance ($25,000 in coverage) is astonishing. A part of all policies for collector/exotic cars is called uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist coverage so if someone hits you without insurance or who has low levels of coverage you aren’t left with the responsibility.

In my city it’s a joke. People don’t even bother to register cars and drive around on multi year old temp tags. It’s become a laughing stock where people send each other the oldest temp tag you can find.

We also have a problem with Ghost license plates in some states, these are paper temporary plates that are fake. Plenty of YouTube videos with news organizations on that problem.

If they officially catch you without a registered car or with fake plates you will lose your car in most states. No insurance is a monetary fine in most states but the fine may be less than the cost of auto insurance. Some people can't even get insurance but insist on driving (i.e. Illegal immigrants and people who lost their driving privileges due to DWI)

Usually, they ignore most cars as there are so many on the road they can't check them all but if you speed, drive a flashy car or get in an accident, then you might have a problem with the police. That is why I was so surprised with Stradman, a loud Ferrari challenge car is not going to be under the radar with the cops. If you have an old beater F150 pickup truck in Texas, you may not get a second look until you run a red light.

Laid back or not, you are asking for trouble, getting the car towed and impounded, etc. I don’t agree with it, but it is what it is.

Here in holland its immediate impound if your car is uninsured or unregistered, and rightly so! for me that isnt even harsh enough yet, imagine you hit someone making them disabled and it isnt even covered because your such a loser that cant afford basic insurance and registration....

yes, as much as you think these high-subscriber YouTubers are fly-by-night individuals, they are actually small to mid-size businesses with millions in revenue and multiple employees. Why would you risk your business???

A viral "cops seized my Ferrari" video would probably pay for itself.
