This particular corner is Copse doing well into and over 180mph....you don't put your front wheel if your the 2nd driver behind the 1st drivers rear wheel going into the apex of Copse. Max had the driving line. Leclerc gave room for Lewis and he went off track losing his position.
If a soap opera writer had written that race, that's exactly what he'd have scripted. According to Sky, Ham broke his rim in that collision --- but the red flag gave Merc 40+ minutes to repair Ham's car without costing any places. (Rim and duct tape to front wing.) Then a bunch of bad stops for cars potentially ahead of Ham. With a 10 sec penalty, Citizen Crane had a 14 sec stop. With *no* penalty, Sainz had a 12 sec stop. Charles drove the wheels off that Ferrari, today. Even with the engine mapping software "bug" out of nowhere. But there was no way Liberty wasn't going to NOT have the Brit driver win at Silverstone. Lewis pulled the same move on Charles that punted Max into the wall. 10 sec didn't "learn" him anything. Watching F1, these days, is getting to be like watching a Hallmark film. (20 minutes to go: time for melodrama.) Then all the Sky apologists trying to blame Max for not bailing out.
That’s fair enough. Today Lewis is at fault, on multiple occasions it was max. Fine by me. Just like Schumacher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Truth here. I think he will escalate things and given the fia preference this might be playing against him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I still think Lewis was optimistic… that being said if one of them had lifted we would have had a 1-2 ver-ham or ham-ver today… I think those guys have to start racing like good old Alain and take less risks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What PO'd me was right after the restart they made their snarky comment that while LeClerc was #1 it wouldn't be for long ....... try 50 laps you idiots.
There was so much orgasmic ecstacy in that commentors room that the janitorial service would have to deep clean the room with clorox.
It wasn't like that at all, by the time Hamilton had fully committed for the corner they were almost side by side. Max must have known Hamilton was alongside him. With Max being able to take the faster line he gained almost a car length on Hamilton, where did he expect Hamilton to be though? This is not F1 2020 where you can race against ghost cars.
+1. Typical stupid commentary. The only reasonable guy there seems to be Button who rightly pointed out that HAM missed or was going to miss the apex of the corner when he hit Max. Even Hill was tending to agree but couldn’t commit fully to saying so.
One of them did lift. Max steered away from the apex to give Lewis room. Lewis couldn't hold his line. Lewis' fault. Stewards agree.

"Almost side by side" is French for "clearly behind". It was not Lewis' corner and he made a desperation dive that was never going to succeed, with predictable results.
LH spears Max off the track and gets 10s penalty? It would have been a race ban if it was the other way around.
No, he literally was alongside Max going in to the corner. With Max having the better line it was inevitable he was going to pull ahead around the corner, he misjudged it and turned in too much.
+1 As a precedence has now been set—10 second penalty only for ELIMINATING your opponent—let’s see what happens now. I can imagine a Senna-Prost Japan 1990 scenario for the championship.
I agree! Just saying if u back off u lose one place and can still win the race. Not his fault though. This is on Lewis. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I was Helmut, I’d give Perez a contract guarantee so long as he runs Hamilton off the road in the next race. What’s the worst that could happen? 10s penalty and lil spanky wanky? Cry me a river…
