I'm still somewhat baffled by the whole format. So if a driver qualifies on pole on friday, and wins the qualifying race, what happens? Does it count as 2 pole positions in hte stats? What happens when both the quali race and the sunday race are won? It counts as 2 wins? But only 3 points for winning one of them... Really not quite sure about it all if very honest. The format I'd have chosen would probably be something like this: Qualify for sprint race as normal (but on Friday). Sprint race saturday 100km, perhaps the top 6 to score point like the pre 2003 points system? Sunday 300km race but with top 10 reverse grid.
A reserve grid , like you propose, has already been turned down by the FIA, well Ross Brawn at least. It wouldn't bring any tangible result, even if if would regularly put a Ferrari on the front row. Lol
Not disputing that, I just dont understand the one theyre using or the reason why it's implemented now, with the new cars coming especially. I see it as a cheap gimmick
Mercedes/Lewis has won all the british GP's with the exception of the 2018 and the 2nd Silverstone race since the hybrid series began. Hopefully Max will change that!
The Sprint race somehow dilutes the importance of the Sunday GP, for me. Beware if there are some car damage !
What did the world expect from an American corporate entity taking over F1? Of course it'll be more NASCAR as time goes on. Electrification and Liberty Media have killed F1.
They will merge F1 with FE at some point, unless they can figure out the USP for F1. Liberty also killed off an industry sector with Grid Girls.
I mean I know I'm a Red Bull fan and everything but Liberty would do well to sell the sport to them. Red Bull know a thing or two about promoting something exciting. Liberty seems to want to make WWE out of it all. More electification will kill the sport quicker. 4 liter V12 at 15K RPM sipping delicious Porsche made synthethic fuel is the future for motorsport. And no poor kids in the Congo will have to dig up cobalt to make the batteries for the cars...
I smile at your obsession with V12 engines, mentioned many times. I can't see no one proposing them back during talks about the future of F2 though .... You know what they say about nostalgia? It's an euphoric vision of the past .
I don't care as long as it's a good race even though j would take a Hamilton win for the sake of the championship.
The odd part to me is that only the top 3 get points (3, 2, 1) in the sprint-race-qualifying-thing. While any sport is all about competing and doing your best, is it even worth the Haas team lining up for this? Maybe do a lap and pull into the pits "oops, we've got some gremlins in the Flux Capacitor to sort out for Sunday."
Oh I dunno, maybe the rest of the field would benefit from them invariably going off-track during the sprint and breaking enough parts without injury that they weren't able to enter on Sunday...leaving things far safer during the actual race. Gene shoulda stuck to building some of the best CNC machines on the planet. This foray into racing is.........just one giant oof.
Nostalgia ? Smartly dressed and well behaved people attending sporting events. What an awful vision for the future.
I still think Haas deserves a lot of credit to enter F1 and give it a go. Geeze, as a rich business man, he could have just sat home and ran his business or retired to the beach, but he's taken on a huge challenge. Sure this year they stink, but he's in there trying. Maybe just make the Sprint Thingy for the bottom 5 teams!
Agreed. It takes some guts to start an independant team to enter F1. Gene Haas brought new ideas, not all well perceived. Kudos for the effort.
Change is painful...traditionalists like me are going to view this latest experiment with skepticism. However, I'm at least willing to sit back with a big 'ol bucket of popcorn and watch this unfold. It occurs to me that despite all the theories to the contrary, at least a few drivers will see the red mist during the sprint race and do something crazy.
Ha I wouldn't say no of course... But just keeping cost in mind etc? The 412t2 sounded pretty marvelous at the same rev range. And they'll last pretty long at that engine speed.
I'm sorry Lando got attacked after the big soccer match and had his watch stolen, but I just read it was worth like $55,000. Holy smokes!
