Strong!
Too bad it doesn't have cs-style grills or daytonas they could have asked another five dollars and pushed it up to $200k.
Thankfully, it specifically itemizes the engine/starter immobilizer feature!!! I imagine that added to the selling price. Kevin
I didn't realize the METAL SHIFT GATE was an "option" I do look at the low mileage photos to get an idea of what "original" should be. The one that caught my eye was the splotch of red on the engine cover (driver's side only). Image Unavailable, Please Login
but from memory that car had a lot of paint chips on multiple body panels. it wasn't in the condition of the 6K mile car by any means. just my two cents
You don’t sell an f car w a cel! F car newbs run for the hills … and serious bidders hype the potential risk to keep comp bidding away. All imho. Seller did himself a disservice not addressing the cel presale.
Looking at the comments there was a CEL scare (like that's so rare on these cars), that the seller really didn't handle well at all, basically saying that he didn't have time (or want to) scan and get info on. Dealing with these cars, its likely nothing, but I can see how it would be seen as a red flag for a 6-digit car. It could have gone higher if he took the 3 minutes to scan and at least disclose what the code was. It leaves a LOT to the imagination. That said, a 38k mile specimen going for over $100k with buyer's premium is still a decent showing.
I'm no DIYer but I could never buy a 360 from an owner who doesn't own an OBD2 scanner. Scanning for codes is seriously low-hanging fruit. I've also never had a CEL that wasn't indicative of an issue that needed to be readily addressed. In fact the only warning I had of an impending pre-cat failure was a CEL.
The seller was totally forthcoming about the CEL... I believe it came on the morning of the final day of the auction. Unfortunate timing for him.
OBD readers should be as compulsory as a key when owning older exotics. I own three of them, ranging from basic to pretty involved. Seller should’ve run to auto store and grabbed one the moment that light came on. Posting codes would mean the difference between a forthright seller and one with possibly something to hide, in my book.
Yeah, even if you don't own one, every auto store in the country has them in stock and will let you borrow one to quickly scan. Seller probably cost himself $10-15k and hurt the greater market as well. Pretty boneheaded.
My bs detector suggests he had access to a scanner and/or knew what the code was, and elected to pretend otherwise.
I tend to trust people unless I get a vibe otherwise. This is one of these cases where my spidey senses are tingling.
Dew— had same thoughts…. Or was in the midst of solving a rash of issues as a non diy… retail repair is costly.
it still wasn't pulling strong money even before the CEL announcement. People anticipating the Inflation boom? The silver spyder only did like 82K and it was a stick. Market correct itself? Just curious...
The action in a Bring a Trailer auction happens with minutes to go. To say "it wasn't pulling strong money even before the CEL" isn't fair because we really don't know what might have happened. There were multiple bidders, but hard to get too excited to buy an F car with a check engine light and a seller who offered very little context. The silver spider didn't sell (didn't hit reserve at $82K). /
I hear ya and agree with ya. The silver car didn't pull strong money either and as you correctly pointed out it didn't meet reserve. Seems odd, that's all. An F car guy with a good indy i would think would have bid more on that TDF car IMO. I understand it's scary, but some guys have a lot more balls than some...that car was super pretty, and i'm not a blue guy....and it was gated...
you are correct, it hit 92K and didn't meet reserve. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-ferrari-360-spider-24/
