This might be a lame question but i cant seem to find a decent phone holder/decent area to mount one in the 458, I have one that sucks to the window but no matter where i put it its a pain in the ass because i have the large Iphone.
Iv been looking at the ones that clip on the air vent but im worried the weight could break the vent?
Would much appreciate some recommendations as since Monday in the UK its 6 penalty points on your licence for using your phone, and i always use mine for playing music and the sat nav as the OEM one in the car is garbage.

I have the same one and it works well. It's good for the iPhone 6 or 7 but I believe the Plus wont fit. I also have a magnetic one in my other cars that also attaches to the vent but work with a piece of thin metal you put behind your case and it magnetically holds it on.

I also use a magnetic one but did not want to attach it to the vent so went with the one in the pictures below.

Im still looking for iphone car mount options for the 458. I also want to be able to 'hardwire' the iphone USB lead, preferably so it comes out through the air vent.

Ive tried slide on phone vent mounts. The problem is the phone falls off - sometimes dangerously - at higher speeds, acceleration, or spirited driving through bends and curved roads. Also it looks as though the vent is under pressure (they werent designed for this use!).

Ive looked at some of the options above. Possibly the Magic Mount suits best, but I dont want to put adhesive or stick on pads onto the interior of the car.

    So thats the mount issue.

Next is the USB lead install. At present I run the cable from the centre console, along the side to the current (crappy), air vent mount, to my phone. Surely theres a more elegant and more less visible option out there?

Does any one have any ideas, links or photos. Goggley is a bit thin on specific 458 installs for the above.

BTW - I use the glove box USB plug permanently, for my Bovee adaptor (bluetooth and stream music).

    Many thanks.

Reviving this thread, since technology has presented some cool new options. I just picked up one of the Spiegel MagSafe mounts to hold my iPhone 12 Pro (wearing a MagSafe compatible case) in my 458 Spider:

...along with their QC 3.0 12v adapter for max charging speed:

The phone simply "thunks" onto the mount with the magnetic connection, and charges wirelessly through it. Removing it is as easy as pulling the phone off. It's turned out to be a really fantastic solution for me! I was a bit worried about the phone sticking to the charger over the bumps or during spirited driving, since the 458 Spider doesn't exactly have a supple ride, but it's been stable and has never fallen off. With the QC3.0 power supply connected to it, the phone gets enough power through this thing to meaningfully increase the phone's level charge while running Waze/Goggle Maps and the screen at full brightness, all without having to plug the phone in.

Looks-wise it's always going to be better to have nothing at all but, if you're gonna put a mount in the car, this one looks pretty unobtrusive and the Space Gray color matches pretty well to the 458's standard trim. The fact that it doesn't block any vents is a plus, and the mounting area is small enough where it's unlikely to cause any issues upon removal.

One tip if you end up getting this: the included USB cable is way too short to make the run from the dash to the 12v outlet. You'll need at least a 3m cable (6ft is just a hair short), and I'd recommend just getting a 10ft one (make sure it's QC3.0 compatible) to give yourself buffer.

So, all in all, I'm pretty dang happy with it in terms of looks, performance and convenience. Not having to plug a charging cable into the phone is weirdly satisfying... ;)

It looks like you have the USB cable going into your glovebox. Is that just for the photo? Could you plug this into the USB port in the glovebox? Or do you have to run a cable to a 12v adapter?

You could run it to the USB in the glovebox, but it would charge much more slowly than a USB adapter with QC (quick charge) 3.0 and/or PD.

To keep things looking clean , I ran the cable into the glove box, out the bottom left corner of it, and tucked it under the carpet+floor mat in the passenger footwell to run it back to the QC 3.0 charger in the 12v outlet between the seats. The charging outlet adapter is pretty low profile so, while it’s not as slick as a hard-wired install, it’s much easier and isn’t a total eyesore.

I’ve had a few PMs asking to see the mount with an iPhone 12 Pro attached to it, so figured I’d post ‘em here. As you can see, the mount itself pretty much disappears from view when the phone is on it.

One downside I forgot to mention about this mount is that the tilt angle of the ball joint is limited to like 30 degrees in any given direction. That means your possible mounting positions are a bit limited - you wouldn’t be able to mount it under the climate controls and tilt it up far enough for the driver to see, for example. So the place I mounted it is IMO the most sensible given that restriction. Interested to hear what others might come up with!

Looks slick but seems really far off to the side. How do you like the position while driving with it there?

It’s not totally ideal, but felt like the most stable location and is totally workable for glancing at it for clarification on directions or adjusting music. Easily reachable and accessible for someone with average length arms :)
