Definitely slow motion. I had time to take my hands off the wheel and wonder how far the wall was. 9 times out of 10 the car stops on the grass. I was unlucky that the rain had made it slippery. I would however like to thank whoever decided to put the tyre wall in front of the concrete
I guess it’s to check your multi tasking skills while impacting you…..was it David and his Ex Navy mates impersonating nurses?….
Hard luck Ian, glad there’s not too much damage, you & the car. Any spin makes you angry with yourself, but you know they say if you never spin you’re not trying hard enough
If it's possible to find good news as I work through a big repair, I think I've found the cause of the spin, primary shaft but loose = 2 gears at once = lock up. This happened at Phillip Island a couple of years back. Have been using Loctite but obviously need something stronger. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep,Hewland gearboxes happened to me in the Brabham once ,not fun . Sandown Historic meet. I'd been dicing with Brian Sampson in his Chevron -BMW B8 for second place behind Robson in his Brabham ,after Alfie Costanzo in John Sheppards Lotus 23 had retired (also gearbox issue) When my Brabham picked up two gears 2/3 and locked up and spun me onto dry grass. Total pain getting it back in the trailer , had to be dragged on.
Yes, I've done a lot of experimenting and have arrived at a set of ratios that work at both SMSP and Phillip Island. 3rd gear for PI is slightly too tall for SMSP but I deal with it.
