Yes, we have heard that too, about the US citizens. But looking at the state of things from here, if I were a US citizen, I would be very careful; at least if you book an airplane ticket, hotel room etc...be sure these are fully reimbursable, to get your money back if for one reason or another the travel would prove impossible.
There is a strange feeling these last three or four days : eveybody is speaking about "return to normality", BUT if you look at the statistics, its not going well at all: yesterday, the number of people in Intensive Care was still rising in France, Germany still has more infections each day...Greece is still locked down, Cyprus has been obliged to lock-down everyone again yesterday...and each time the lock down has been lifted (in May 2020, then in December 2020) another one was looming just a few weeks after. Basically, as said before, the governments are betting that the vaccine will spread quicker than the virus, and that it will protect from the new variants; not sure this will work: it hasn't so far...

Most people nowadays are too young to remember World War II, and nor does their parents: but there was an ammunition factory in the woods between your place and mine, that has been bombed by the americans when they liberated the place in november 1944; the biggest bombs have been dug away, but who knows, there might be one or two left. When I was a kid, our parents always told us never to dig in these forests at all...
There might also be other explosives, as the ammunition factory also blew off on its own account...and of course there are the Maginot line forts all around, around which ammunition was aplenty.
That being said, the crater on your picture is small, that's no a bomb.

Off-topic on: In the newspaper 2 years ago, it said that it was an WW2 explosive device (not specifically a bomb) and over time, one of them may have been deteriorated. In fact, I'm just telling a press article, I'm not a specialist.

@tomc @dcmetro yes you can add it :p

Nuclear power plant + chemicals + unexploded bombs?!? Where do you live, it sounds like the New Jersey of France! :D

I hope all our Ferrari friends are staying safe over there.
Things are close to normal here, or at least people are acting like it is!
I suspect that means 3rd wave is in the offing.

I will be in Paris the first week of July, hopefully and in Italy the end of August into Sept.
The Italy trip is booked, Paris am waiting for airline tickets still.
I am happy to be going again.
@nerofer unfortunately you are correct, many young people today have no knowledge of WW2 outside of the context of a high school history book, very sad indeed

After observing the figures carefully for the last ten days or so...
The first week of July in Paris should be "manageable": should another "wave" be in the waiting, it will not strike before August or September, hopefully.
Who knows, should you feel so inclined, and should our agendas match, we might perhaps even have lunch together?
Whatever: first week of July should not be too dangerous.

The British have now to manage the "indian variant", but while much more contagious than the previous ones, they have succeeded in keeping it restricted to "clusters" in some areas of the "Greater Manchester", such as Bolton, so far...
(Admitedly, the percentage of vaccination in the U.K is much higher than in France: 56,93% of the population with at least one dose, vs 34,22% for France).

So I booked my tickets to France. The only change I noticed was that I would normally fly into Orly with Delta/AF,
Now can only fly into CDG non-stop, and for now only 1 flight out per day from JFK
Did buy insurance just in case, and getting PCR test in France is easy as it is offered at CDG. Not sure what the result turn- around time is though.
Just happy to be going and see my Zia again. Hopefully things don’t take a step backwards
In NY our Supreme Ruler has stated that NY can go back to pre- COVID if we get to 70% vaccinated rate. We are currently at 69%.
Keeping fingers crossed that we turned the corner!

We have already booked a flight for Italy for September-October of this year. We are fully vaccinated and at this time regulations state that we need a COVID PCR test 48 (?) hours prior to boarding. Our departure is about 3 months in the future so we don't know how that may change.

Flying to Italy this Saturday with 6 techs for the Mille Miglia. At this point Vaccine cards don't mean anything for making travel easier, still have to test before we get on a flight and when we land.

    No quarantine?

The problem with the tests is that they are not 100% accurate. You can get a false positive on either end and completely screw your trip.

Hoping for the best! Good luck!

The PCR test must be done 72 hours in advance of flight as of today. That is both in France & Italy.
I was told today by a gentleman who just arrived from France, that there are labs that give a 24 turn around time for the PCR results.
France still has the 9pm curfew in place, at least in Paris. Italy is more open than France at the present time.
I suspect, hope, that things will progress faster as tourism $$$ is needed greatly.

    As of yesterday June 9:

    - the curfew here in France is now 23h00, eleven pm.

-Restaurants are open inside as well, not just terraces, but not to full capacity.

-Museums, sports events, etc public swimming pools are now reopened, again to a certain percentage.

-Only nightclubs remain closed for obvious reasons.

Avoid Roissy Charles De Gaulle airport as procedures there might take three hours between landing and taxi. An embarrassing joke due to the bureaucratic idiocy.

June 30 the curfew ends alltogether.

Went to Austria via Geneva airport and also Belgium by road in April on business, both trips involved lots of paperwork and online pre approval by the countries for my trips and yes PCR tests and results can be done very very quickly here.

If you have an anti mask, anti vaccine attitude do yourself a favour and wait for 2022, this is not a P&R comment at all, Europe is not the US and if you come you must adapt like we do when we come to the US. Why would anyone want to be thrown out and or arrested whilst impressing absolutely no one.

@Nembo1777 ..thank you very much for the updated information!....I would love to avoid DeGaulle but cannot. There are no direct flights from NY to Paris other than JFK to CDG. But I'm happy to hear that the curfew time has been extended and restaurants can now serve inside even with restricted capacity.
Its been 2 years since I have been there to see family.

Marc, just one more point: anybody having an "anti-vaccine" attitude AND anybody not being vaccinated coming to France from the US will NOT be admitted, UNLESS he/she can prove that the trip is done under dire necessity, and will be quarantined.
Only the persons who are vaccinated are free to come, with the reservation of the PCR test of less than 72 hours.

Who knows? See what is happening these very last days in the U.K with the "Delta variant" (formerly known as the "Indian variant"). They have an unexpected third wave happening, the only question is its size.

The U.K had the highest vaccination percentage of whole Europe, contaminations were down to very small numbers, and the country should have been freed of all restrictions on June 21st.
But the "Delta variant", appeared in the spring, is highly transmissible, so contaminations have risen again since early June, back to their February level, so the U.K Government will announce today if the last restrictions will indeed be lifted on June 21st, as initially scheduled, or if the date is put on hold for two or three weeks, to gain time to evaluate better the conditions and speed at which the "Delta variant" is growing...many suspect that the date will indeed be postponed.

I think this thing won't last soon. This year data are improving much during the last month (see data in the link below), we are now below 1K new cases a day, but who knows what will happen in the future with this delta variant. At present everything (or almost everything) here in Emilia Romagna Region (and many others) is open, no lockdown, but you still have to wear a mask (probably up to July) everywhere. I got the first vaccine dose ten days ago.

Great Britain just posponed of one month the lockdown end due to delta variant

Indeed they did: the U.K is back to 8.000 cases a day (less that 2.000 three weeks ago), and despite the U.K being the most vaccinated country in Europe, this almost entirely due to the "Delta Variant".
One dose of vaccine will not protect against that one: two doses of vaccine are necessary, and you must wait two to three weeks after the second dose to get protected.
The "Delta Variant" has already been identified in Portugal (it explains the sudden come-back of contaminations here) in Germany and in France: only 130 identified cases here...as for now...hope Italy might stay away from that one; my guess is that it's not over yet.

    Rgds

By the way, got my second dose last Tuesday (June 8th...).

Hi Bruno: we already have here some cases of delta variant. Very few, at present. We did not act like Great Britain: we did not wait so much between first and second dose (in GB almost nobody got the second dose yet), we use a lot of Pfizer that has a 72% effectiveness against delta variant, the highest among actual vaccines. Finger crossed...

    Ciao
