This car was at the Passione Engadina in August 2013 and the text in the article is: “…Only nine cars were ever produced by Maserati, one with a very singular Zagato coupe body and were equipped with a 4.5 liter V8 developing 400 horsepower which allowed it a top speed of 320 km/h. This Tipo 54 450 S chassis 4511 actually never came out of the factory so actually it is a replica body, but its 5.7 liter marine V8 came out of the factory and equiped chassis 4508 during several years…”.

I've ridden in both of these, driven one of them and own one. You get to guess which is which? :p
Sorry ... I don't know the chassis number ... I bet Joe and Walter do though. The yellow one is a lot faster ...

The owner was probably told a line by whomever sold it to him or if he commissioned the car himself saw that #4511 was listed in a book as engine only and thought he claim the number not knowing that the engine is in #4508. Someone is also out there trying to claim #4507.

The one thing that hasn't turned up as far as I know is the original engine from #4508.

The car in question is a replica!
One of three 450S replicas made by Giovanni Giordanengo about 12 years ago.
He copied the body from the real #4503 when it was in Italy many moons ago - incl. a mistake done on that car when restored in that country.
I pointed to Giovanni about his mistake on his "450S" but the old man did not listen (same situation with the mistake he made on Franco Lombardi`s A6GCS PF coupe and copied that on the replicas of that type).
According to my infos Giovanni used original marine engines for his three 450S replicas.

So the part "but its 5.7 liter marine V8 came out of the factory" could be true, but it's not #4511.

    Walter,
I respect that you didn't name the faults. Bravo! Buyer beware and let them have their own expert inspect the car and give the potential buyer their professional opinion privately! This should always be the case particularly when you are dealing with very expensive cars to purchase.

And that was exactly my point. I found Elliot's post odd, you make your living doing this.

He works for his client and not for the general public. Commenting on a car that he may have seen but was not hired to review would be unprofessional and if he was hired to review the car, his information is for his client only as you and didn't pay his consulting fee. His business wouldn't go very far if he talked about every car he has had contact with. Walter is very careful in his discussions with the general public and very precise. It is those qualities that bring him the clients that he has.

Maserati A6 GCS Test Drive by Jim Stokes Workshops
“Test drive video from 2020 through the Hampshire/West Sussex countryside, featuring a Maserati A6 GCS that we have looked after for many years and supported at the Goodwood Revival Meeting. A beautiful car that sounds fantastic.”
