Maybe Bottas will just retire, I'm not sure he's nurturing a very good relationship with Mercedes currently.

I think its easy to say now hard on Saturday Night. frankly the rules as they are; are stupid. if you damage your car in qualifying and then cant repair it for the race you are out. if you try to repair it but have to replace a Gearbox then you get a penalty? its stupid. The teams should be allowed to bring as many cars as they like -spare car etc... so that drivers can at least race... even Mercedes ... not just because it was a Ferrari... the rules about cost to me are just stupid. F-1 is the billionaires boy club... so let them do it. if they run it as a business they will find out what makes it work or not ... the hard way. all this artifice just dilutes F-1 ...

    I couldn't agree more.

Trying to run F1 as a low-cost series is an heresy to me.

A 'shunt' requires a safety check no less on all systems. This is nuts. If the car is wrecked they need to ensure its safe. On safety issues alone they need to update rules.

Ferrari confirm that the left driveshaft hub failure that caused Charles Leclerc not to start the Monaco Grand Prix was a consequence of his qualifying crash. This is not a part normally checked following this type of accident but Ferrari will update its procedures now

Seems like the lateral impact was huge.

    Bottas wheel nut in action.

1st pic is what the wheel nut is supposed to look like when it's taken off. Notice the ribs outside the nut.

I have to say I am quite surprised this impact was big enough to break the left driveshaft.

It was the hub of the left driveshaft and NOT the driveshaft itself per-say.

Still though, the impact was big enough.

I suspect they sent the upright and the wheel to the factory and kept the car.

Always the same stereotypes about Italy and Italians.
Some enjoy impunity for being able to express their low-level racisms into a site that celebrates one of the brightest examples of Italian genius.
    Ad nauseam..

Possibly they need some heat and it's only at their workshop they have the tools to do that.

It really is quite amazing when we get a chance to see what's really going on in the cockpit, and how these guys are managing the cars beyond a couple pedals and a wheel. Something Nikita will have to learn to deal with on every track. Chalk it up to a growing pain if he lasts beyond the season.

For me... I can entertain all the conspiracies and speculation... they trashed Bottas' wheel nut on purpose to give Lewis a couple points ... blah blah blah... however... what I do love is watching Ric get his a$$ handed to him by Lando. I was waiting for that all break... hoping it would turn out this way.

The answer to Coulthard was priceless when he commented that he wasn't even sweat (after such a long race with
no Safety Car) to what Sainz answered that maybe Coulthard perhaps didn't train (in his time), haha. I'm liking Carlos more and more.
He's so positive and takes gradual and steady improvements. He's also very consistent. Ferrari must be adoring
    their current lineup.
