That’s excellent!! But As a pilot even in a modern aircraft a tad spooky, nerve wracking 50 years ago I’ll bet I’m off to research pole keyholes

Thanks, played a lot with inertial obviously getting the centripedal and coriolis corrections set just right .... the later F-111s had astral navigation , I'd have loved to play with that

Do they still use gyroscopes and a gimbal system for the ADI ?

Probably discontinued when electricity turned up

 

All fed by Air data computers now JM…GPS is the major part of a modern day Jet liner..

Seems appropriate for this thread, German Paratroopers dropped into Crete on this day in 1941 and the "Battle of Crete" began. Many Aus and NZ soldiers lost their lives or were taken prisoner. Cretans have an incredible sense of honour and the sacrifice these blokes made is always commemorated each year.
