Some lucky individuals!!! https://denver.cbslocal.com/2021/05/12/small-plane-crash-mid-air-collision-cherry-creek-reservoir-denver-colorado/
Thanks. A bunch of lucky people here! I can't figure out how the vertical fin on the metro escaped any visible damage muchness being torn off the airplane.
I think that there was some viable damage to the vert stabilizer. Amazing that it stayed on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good video showing radar trace and including ATC audio. The aircraft were supposed to land on closely parallel runways and it looks like the Cirrus overshot on its final turn.
Thanks, I should have looked more carefully, I expected more damage , I guess. The mid air that destroyed my L-3 was similar to this. Climbing up In the blind spot beneath an over-taking aircraft.
I'm trying to reconstruct this incident and how the damage was done to the Metro. From what I can figure, the Cirrus crossed over from the right above and the Cirrus prop hit the Metro and its left wing trailing edge cut into the Metro's fin. Kudos to the Metro pilot who focused on flying the airplane.
There are parallel runways at that airport. Metro was flying a straight in to the left runway (I think? Maybe I have it reversed) and Cirrus was flying a full pattern to the right runway. Cirrus overshot the base to final turn and crossed over the Metro as he turned back to final.
