My 73 GT has euro spec bumpers which have the end-caps with concave recesses. What I want advice on is whether the recesses should be finished in chrome or with black paint. I checked the compendium and this shows photos of cars with both finishes. Which is correct please?

As far as I am aware US models were chrome (different end cap), Euro black because they couldn't get inside the concave section for polishing. (not without a lot of fuss anyway)
Mine are black inside the concave section

there a very mixed picture on this topic....
until mid E-series the bumper end caps of Euro and RHD models always just chrome.
Late E-series (from approx. #06000) mostly had them painted black.
#07610 just chrome is bit of a surprise to me
US-models always chrome, no black paint

Thanks everyone. Matthias's explanation seems to sum it up, with Iain's reply proving that, as always, there is an exception. I can't comment on what mine were originally as it's euro bumpers were changed for US-spec ones whilst it was in the States and I changed these to the excellent Harrington stainless steel copies when I first got the car. These are have unpainted end-caps which fit nicely with it's sub-#06000 chassis number so I will leave them as is.

Attached is a photo of Euro-spec GT #06618 taken in 1975 after being purchased from Garage Francorchamps. Note the unpainted chrome end caps.

    Hello Ryan,

that looks very much correct... it`s very difficult to say when the change took place precisely... thanks for your picture

I have a US spec late E series with the Euro end caps on the rear bumpers. Other than the difference in the end caps, are there any other differences between the US and the Euro bumpers? Anyone have any ideas where I might find the correct flat, chromed end caps that would be correct for the US bumpers? How are they affixed to the ends of the bumpers? Thanks for any help. Marc

I have had the bumpers and end caps of my "73 E gt 5906 re-chromed. Now I need to paint the insides. On the end caps the colour was a mat "military green".
Could any one advise if this is the correct colour?
