Ok, so normally you would only change a wheel bearing if there is some odd noise , vibration or movement but as an ex-aircraft engineer we had time intervals for all parts on an aircraft and as I am driving an OHOS that is 25 years old and one of the few components that concern me outside of the brakes are the age of the wheel bearings.

A consequence of a bearing failing on the track or during a spirited drive is the possibility of them seizing and the wheel shearing off.

I'm booking the car in with Marc for the peace of mind but I was wondering if a REAL mechanic could suggest a timeframe for replacement.

I also get all hoses replaced every 5-6 years along with brake caliper seals

The car is running beautifully and is booked in for a dyno with the V8 supercar guys which I do every couple of years (is $1300 the right price for a dyno ? The last couple have been in that vicinity)

Just getting the car ready for the FNR and want a low stress rally :)

I was asked/PM'ed/conversationed by someone here why I just didn't just buy and put a set of new wheel bearings in......,a 1968 E Type Jaguar and drive it back to Warwick.....at 5pm on a Friday afternoon in Wellington, midwest NSW......I'll let the bleeding obvious work it around your brainbox for...oooooh about 2 or 3 seconds..:)

Why on earth would you put it on a dyno?? What do you think it's going to achieve? It doesn't go out of tune.

As a man much smarter than me would say, that poor car.

Can be quite a challenge to press the bearings out of a Jag upright. Also need an oven handy to heat it up first. I've had the experience, not a roadside repair.

My GT4 uses the same front bearings as most red motor Holdens & the seal is the same era Falcon,so Instead of repacking/ checking them I replace, cheap as chips, probably every 20k.klms. The rears are replaced when they're noisey.

Yep. Years ago I purchased wheel bearings from Eurospares for a 365GTC/4. They then sent the wrong ones. I then spoke with Carlos who said just go around to the local suburban bearing joint and get them. Sure enough they had them in stock for 1/5 the price of Eurospares. Can't remember what cars they were for but they were for mass produced cars. Readily available and cheap. Just give them the Timken, SKF etc bearing numbers not the car make and model.
