The R 190 is Rosso Chiaro, as used on 246, 365 and 308 carb series. The Celeste is a silvery blue metallic , with a touch of green in it, pretty color.

These cans are quite rare and one of the original delivery items with new cars in the late 60’s to late 70’s period, I believe.

you are correct. very rare. these are unopened cans that were supplied new with the cars. i believe they were part of the items supplied in the ultra rare cardboard boxes. some dealers may have separated them from the car before the sale.

It's an interesting quandary... Ed once asked if I might be interested in buying one of the cans of the Chiaro, but here is the thing, while my car is Chiaro now, that is not its original color, so is it "points off" or "points added" for having an original can of a non-original color... :)

(and before anyone starts to think otherwise, I mean the above as a complete joke)

This box belongs to a Dino, but to my understanding all the cars in period came with this, but I am sure they were thrown out as part of dealer prep.

I think it’s also interesting that it shows it comes with two side mirrors.

This is one of two different versions of the style of box that I have.

Yikes! Looks like one now needs *two* cans of paint, or it is points off... :)

    (again, meant as a joke)

i think the real value of these cans is to use as a spray out to get an exact match for a new modern paint.
how else could one find “celeste with a hint of green”?

Every new Ferrari that was delivered to the USA was delivered with a can of paint in the trunk. But, it is entirely possible that the first selling dealer may have removed this prior to delivery to the first purchaser. I clearly remember doing pre delivery inspections on new Daytona's, C4's, Dino's all had cans of paint in the trunk.
I brought this up in judges meetings at Cavallino and the Ferrari Nationals, stating that all cars should have a litre of paint in the trunk to accompany the tools, and not having it should be a 1/2 point deduction. I was laughed at a number of times, as the Chief judge ignored my request every time. Other judges at the judges meetings were clueless. The over stressed judging guide lines was that the car should be shown exactly as when it was new. I rest my case.

And very very few examples, including most that have received one or more complete/extensive “restorations” in the past few decades, will actually qualify, even if they have aforementioned “tin can” or “books & tools”, etc. with them.

I judged the Boxer class, and I didn't see any cars in my class that had the paint. I am unaware of other classes with cars having paint.
