that's a lost cause with some of them unfortunately.

Hell even saying he's among the top drivers and not a GOAT is enough to brand you a hater/not seeing the light and whatever by some of the cultists.

This is symptomatic of a time when reason no longer has the right to be cited. Only the court of social networks and gratuitous accusations.

Imo It doesn't matter what Lauda told him. Who knows what the other teams were up to. Lauda could tell me anything, at the end of the day, McLaren, Ferrari currently are WCC teams, Merc hasn't won since the 50s. Bold decision from Lewis.

The sporting tradition at Mercedes makes it rare but with a total involvement ( 30', 50' Sauber/Mercedes sport proto , McLaren engine..),
We see it again since 2009 and the takeover of Brawn GP. Unlike you, I think that the Mercedes project figures put forward by Lauda and Brawn to Hamilton were decisive.
I would have done the same for him.

Mercedes took over Brawn, a recent WCC team.

I don’t think it was that bold. It’s obvious the Germans were due to win.
Mercedes wasn’t in f1 for decades so the 50’s really that doesn’t mean much. Mercedes as a engine supplier was multiple WDC with McLaren and already had The best engine on the grid. No one knew they would be that good but they were better than McLaren & Ferrari didn’t want Lewis so ... not a bold move, just the only logical choice and best choice available

In 100 years when all current drivers are no longer amongst the living, all that will be remembered is the statistics.

I suspect Lewis understood the McLaren was going down hill and needed a different landing zone.
In the end, it is pretty obvious he made a good choice.

There were some warning signs at McLaren.
Refusing to come completely under the Mercedes umbrela upset their status at MB.
From a works team, they became customers, and Mercedes decided to have its own team.
