Good morning all! I achieved a childhood dream and finally bought my first Ferrari last year (488 GTB - 2018) However, I haven’t managed to enjoy any of the performance that it has to give. Does anyone know of any Ferrari experiences organised by owners or dealerships or even Ferrari themselves which involve a day thrashing their cars around a track? Having never ‘tracked’ my Aston Martin and Audi cars in the past I’m not keen on taking my 488 on a track! Sorry in advance for my ignorance on this subject but grateful for any suggestions.

The Owners Club do this as do Ferrari UK & Pirelli for your own cars (usually with instruction) - an alternative are the courses organised in Italy by Ferrari using their cars

You need not be so afraid of tracking your car - they are designed for it & there is a huge level of safety nowadays both in the organisation and the cars themselves

As above. Any problems accessing that, give the FOC a call and or your local dealer.

What are your concerns about tracking your car?

Thank you. I guess my concerns are wear and tear to components and damage to the car should I come off or be hit by others. Also, is insurance prohibitively dear? Do you track yours often?

I used to do several a year - some regular policies do cover track day damage - some do not - there are specialists in the case of the latter

The last time I tracked a car was with my old 599 on the Barcelona GP circuit on an owners day. Insurance didn't even enter my mind then, and it was perfectly managed. Outside of an officially-organised day, I would get cover just in case.

The only concern I had was with fuel. The Ferrari driver who showed me what the car could do managed to get 2MPG. I wasn't sure whether I should be annoyed or amused!

I’ve done a few in various cars, but nothing like others!!! Silverstone in my 348 and castle Coombe in my 355.

As above re insurance. I insure via Lockton who include Ferrari track days. FoC days are ok, but I prefer some of the smaller events with 6 cars max on track; very easy to find your own space. As to crashing, take it easy, it’s not a race, build up your confidence gradually.

As to wear on the car..it’s what they are for! You might notice some wear on your tyres, but unless you are really going, doubt you’d notice to be honest!

Tracing your car is a great experience. You got to pop that cherry at some stage!

Haha! Given general consensus, I am most definitely leaning further towards popping that cherry and tracking the 488. How did you find out about the smaller events where you only had 6 on the track?

Thanks, I will do some research. What were your preferred tracks?

Pirelli P Zero day there on the 7/8 June. Not the cheapest way to do Silverstone. but it looks like an opportunity to try other cars on the day as well.

I’m there on the in a porsche. First time on a Pirelli day so will report back afterwards.

Definitely book one with tuition available as you will get more out of the day.

Would also recommend Donnington for first timers.

Just had a look at this and still space. Does seem to tease that there are other cars to try - you just need £795 and a car they deem acceptable - seems my Cali is on the list. Can't find many review details (pretty much any sort of reviews) on the web about the day itself and unsure what the Pirelli briefings are about - here is a tyre, here is another tyre.... :)

What pushed/hooked you into doing it if I can ask?

Just been invited to a choice of three dates from my insurance company (First Point). Silverstone in May and June and Goodwood in July. Free invitation and didn’t ask or expect it. Apparently they have 5 places per event. Just sold Speciale and waiting for F8spider so couldn’t commit :-(

Point being, worth asking your insurance company.

I was bought it as a present. Followed up with them and it’s got a few side benefits. Here is what they said...

......Confirmed for track test drives at the event are Ferrari (F8 Tributo), Lamborghini (Huracan EVO), and McLaren (720S/620R). These are subject to change.

There will also be passenger rides available in a Dallara and Pagani, plus road test drives in some Ferrari (812 and Roma) and Lamborghini (Huracan and URUS) models.......

I’ve done Silverstone before, track is well worth driving. It’s fast and long with lots of run off. The Pirelli day is a bit more expensive compared to standard track days at Silverstone., but the extra test cars etc will be the reason.

As always it’s really down to the other drivers on the track and there are some fast cars in the test fleet (I expect them to limit speed a bit in the test cars).

They were also cheaper for a set of PZero’s fitted on the day than black circles etc. Not sure if I need them yet and the idea of new road tyres on a track day needs some consideration (especially if wet).
