NO then we have to wear on our cars ugly plates.

I hate the look of plates but I prefer the stamp duty money staying in my pocket .

I understand that, but I don't believe there is any justifiable reason for making you wear the ugly plates.

Number plate recognition tech is such that any car that is on historic rego would "pop up" on the rozzers' systems anyway.

agree except for the authorities its instant when they see the plate if they wish to do a log book check, which they are known to do in VIC.

Also up to a few years ago CH plated cars did not pay on the tollways .however they now do.

There has been talk of them changing the rules in VIC to allow normal plates on club plated cars/bikes ...who knows if it will occur .

In Qld we would give a portion of our reproductive bits for the scheme you and NSW have,if even it means having ANY sort of number plate!

Well no, I would never give up my number plates.

I hate the Vic ones and the small NSW ones even more.

And I hate people whom leave standard plates on a car when the could have tasteful black and white for example.

    But we are all different.

Silly signature here to annoy KIAI

Yes if i already owned a car i would keep it on full reg "HORSE"

second issue ugly plates yes but safe not having to pay stamp duty.

On a new over 25 year old purchase on a car say valued at 200k ..what would you do re the stamp duty /ugly plates?

In the Socialist Republic of Victoria that car would attract $18k of stamp duty, which I agree is utterly ridiculous.
In SA the same vehicle would get a bill of less than $8k.

However, if it was me and I was stupid enough to live in Victoria, I’d just consider it part of the cost of buying the car.

Just in the door. Thanks to everyone for a great trip. I headed North to Canberra afterwards for a night then to Beechworth for a night and hope today via Yackendandah, Mansfield and Yea. 2,350kms in total. Car was trouble free and very comfortable for long stints. Happy days.

In my case, if all my old cars ended up on full registration. The stamp duty component would be almost double the average wage after tax. There is no way I will convince myself that is money well spent. I would however spend the money for normal registration if the CPS was restricted to a gazetted club event. Each to their own.

Not correct, in Victoria the CPS plated vehicles appear on a separate database and that is not part of the registration plate recognition database (But VicRoads are attempting to amalgamate it).
