This model is insanely gorgeous, a real brute with stunning lines. I lived in Massachusetts as a child and went to Bill Cosby's residence one rainy Sunday morning for a car show with my Father (who got me into cars at a young age). We saw many beautiful Ferrari's, but the GTO left an impression on me. I couldn't have been more than 10 years old. I said, "Dad, we need one of these". He replied "are you nuts, they're like 75 Grand".....Oh, had he listened to me......Stunning car that to me, epitomizes Ferrari - brutally powerful and sexy at the same time. God bless......ARA....

    Hey all,

Hope you are doing well! I saw this forum and thought you would be the best people to ask for help in working out the chassis numbers of a couple of 288 GTOs I've seen but stupidly forgotten to take note of at the time (I've only just started keeping track of what I've seen!)

The first is an example I saw back in August 2017 at Graypaul Ferrari in Nottingham. I have found the sale listing from the time: https://web.archive.org/web/20170710115904/https://www.graypaulclassiccars.com/vehicles/ferrari-288-gto/

The second is one I saw in the Carugati showroom in Geneva in March 2020. Here's an old sale listing of that car on Classic Driver: https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/ferrari/288-gto/1985/735031

I've contacted both dealers about these, but Carugati wished to keep the details a secret, while Graypaul said they had no records on that car anymore since it had been so long.

Completely understand if it isn't possible to find these cars with the slim amount of information I've found. I appreciate any help you guys have.

    Many thanks,
    Cavan

If you love the Ferrari Supercar series, you simply have to have all four.

Any information on what happened? Looks like an older photo but the interior itself looks pretty dirty as well.

Perhaps track day and lost control and hit a tree or concert guardrail?

Regardless, no one wants see things like this happen

So glad to hear that. I often wondered what happened to these cars when damaged early on in their life. We’re they “parted” out more often back then or were they always coveted as they are now. I remember the debut of the 288 but I was only 11 years old, I had no idea of the provenance they would hold in the future

Thankyou Marcel for the information, your knowledge is always appreciated.

I'm not sure a single GTO has ever been 'parted out', as far as I'm aware most if not all the damaged cars have been or are being repaired.

Hi, please advise what your parameters are for "low mileage". 500kms a year for 36 years is approaching 18,000kms now. I think that is low mileage.

    Thanks Joe

I’m sure Marcel knows where most, if not ALL of them are or their fate. I guess the real question would be are they all accounted for? Just curious, I don’t need facts. It would just be interesting to know how many are “lost” or history not accounted for.
