On my 85 QV my fuel line going from the meter/fuel distributor to the injector on cyl #4 broke. Any place to find a replacement? I looked everywhere and came up with nothing. Thanks everyone!

Where it screws into the injector. I was spinning the nut about the injector and the fuel like was a bit corroded and the line twisted which ruined it. The nut fitting and line was jacked. Looking to replace the full line if possible. And might as well do them all if I’m there. Do one, then do the rest. There all 35 years old.

Replacing the black plastic lines is a fiddly job requiring patience and a special tool (readily available from Unobtainium Supply), but it’s well within the scope of a mechanically-inclined owner.

Finding the metal lines may be a challenge. I don’t know if they are readily available new...you may have to resort to a used set off ebay (where they show up infrequently).

    good luck,

I wonder if I’m better off going to a hose shop and having them make me custom braided lines for all 8

    Matt:

Yes...you can probably cobble together another way to get fuel from point “A” to point “B”. I would think that the internal diameter of any alternative hose you use should be identical to the factory hoses to keep the fuel flow within design parameters.

One other thing you might try: the metal lines have a lot of slack in them (in the form of loops). Maybe you can unwind one of the loops on the damaged metal line, clip off the last few inches and resolder the nipple back onto the line. Maybe someone else on this Forum has done this? Just a thought...

    good luck,
    Alan

No, this was a total DIY. Goodridge hose and fittings. Every line is unique in terms of length and fittings on each end. Hose I.D. and line length are not critical.

Very fussy to do, with lots of 'not quite right' lines which ended up in the bin. If I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't. Better for you to repair / replace your damaged single fitting with OEM.

I'd rather keep the line stock. This being said if he wants to make a custom set of lines he can salvage fittings from a VW or Mercedes and then make his own lines. That's what I did a s a temporary fix for my return line. I did not like the shiny look and thickness of the hose, but at least the car was not stuck any-more.

I’ll do that. I’ll order 8 maybe 10 in case some get messed up. Thank you for your helping me. I talked to Larry Fletcher on the phone and he was helpful as well.

Length isn’t critical? I saw yours are all custom lengths Dave. That doesn’t cause any issues or running rough?

Not critical as long as you use the proper polyamid tubing.

There were problem on Porsches, that used tubes with thinner walls, but the tubing was much longer than on our cars.

On our cars same material but thinner wall did not cause issue. If you take something totally different your mileage may vary?

Worst case you adjust the individual output of each injectors on the distributor.

    Lesson Learned.

Removing the Fuel Lines from the Injectors is ALWAYS A TWO WRENCH Job.

    ALWAYS.

    Sorry for your misfortune.

Prepare to pay +/- $100 per line IF and WHEN you can find them.

Ferrparts was selling an incomplete set (7 of 8 IIRC) on eBay a week back.

    CHECK with them.

    You might get lucky.

    To ALL,

Those 30+ year-old black plastic lines are seriously potential TIME BOMBS.

REPLACE THEM. I had 8 SERIOUS cracks in mine I could NOT SEE or FEEL until they were removed.

It is an afternoon's job and quite easy to do IF you also have the tool.
