Actually add roughly 6000 more because the sending unit has failed twice way back in the late 90's when I was driving it nearly every day.

Indeed; with the missing 6.000 that's slightly above 200.000 kms in metrics. Impressive...

Maybe more maybe less. Not 100% sure. I have notes on the use during then filed away somewhere. When it failed the first time, it was very early in my ownership. No fchat, barely a commercial internet so no social media to search for an answer for what the problem was. I had no idea what was broken and I was terrified the repair was going to be a big $$ job. So I just ignored it for an extremely long time. I was driving back and forth to Atlanta and Florida a lot so big mileage chunks were easy to estimate.

Is that 120K miles without any engine rebuild or major work to the engine?

    That is super-cool!

I've just bought a '89 (1990 registered ) 328 GTS with 83K miles on the clock, and when told the mileage, people have looked at me as though I have completely lost my marbles!

I've told them that the mileage doesn't bother me, and tried to explain to them that the 308/328 V8 is a pretty tough unit, and so long as it's serviced regularly (which the service history on my car indicates my car has been), and has been looked after, can go 100K~150K without major issues, but they still seem to think the car should have had an engine rebuild 40,000 miles ago!

Naturally you can't allow for the unexpected, and things can/do go wrong (fingers crossed they don't! :)), but these cars were designed to be driven - Not to be parked up for decades at a time, and only started once or twice a year at most.

I'm sure that if Enzo Ferrari saw two 308's next to each other today, one with 1200 miles on the clock, and one with 120,000 miles on the clock, he would smile about the 120,000 mile car the most, because he would know it has been used as he intended his cars to be used, and given people a lot of pleasure in the process.

The only bigger urban myth that a Ferrari engine needs an obligatory rebuild at 75K something miles is Bigfoot

More and more evidence suggests Bigfoot exists. I even have a friend that is very above board that swears she and some friends saw one on a camping trip to Yellowstone last year.

It wasn't a friend of a friend. She saw something and described it in very vivid detail. And wasn't drinking. Was also visibly shaken when telling me what happened a week later.

Enzo himself once said - we build engines, not cars.

congratulations on the new milestone, not surprised, they do have a bullet proof engine !

    The transmissions as well.

Not a lot of people know this but you can empty your trans, let it drip all night. Then without refilling it, drive it from your house to Barbers Motorsports track about 5 miles away and put in some hot laps before you "notice something weird". You can then drive it back home where you will quickly find out what you did. After a few moments necessary to calm yourself you may top it off again and go back the the track and enjoy the rest of the afternoon

And 17 years later you can stay problem free.

I wouldn't try it for the hell of it. But you could do it if you want....

You know, Dr Tommy, I'm actually in awe. Really I do. Herunder is the odometer of my own Nero Met over Gray Leather '89 328 GTS seen this morning. She reached a milestone of some sort.
And no, before you ask: these are not miles, but kilometers (That would make 24850 miles or so).

Now...considering I got the car ten years ago, during which I managed to cover only 20.700 kms (that is IF, and that is a big IF, the car really only had 19.300 kms when I bought her...as I was assured) to bring her to 100.000 kms (or only 60.000 miles) would take me another 30 years, which would bring me to 91 years of age...
Something tells me that by this time, I would be already "eating the dandelions by their roots" (very old, dated and obsolete french expression: "manger les pissenlits par la racine" meaning: being dead).

Therefore, yes, I say it again, I'm in awe by what you did. You, and your car, belong to a very select club.

Doc, how many miles did your car have when you bought your car, and did you notice any change in Perfomance since you bought it and now?
