2005 Spider, Resale red of course, black interior with red piping. She was a one owner car, 14,000 miles and in amazing condition! A few projects I want to do: 1. fix one loose tail light (already bought scuuuud's repair kit, just have to take the time to do it and do them all while I'm in there) 2. replace the ball joints to stop squeaks over bumps and two more projects that I need the forum's help with please! 3. the secret cubby behind the seats keeps popping open on its own at random times and is driving me nuts. Is there any way to adjust it, check the catch, etc? The switch works normally, but not sure if there are stray electrons out there causing it to signal the cubby open, or is it just the catch not holding it closed over bumps as the body vibrates, twists, etc?? 4. The stock stereo...... i know there are multiple threads about it, and I have read them, but they just address complete replacement. I'm trying to figure out my issue in particular. I have a fair amount of static, rattles, and poor sound from my stereo (typical I know), but what is causing this??? Is it the head unit, antenna reception, amp, speakers?? I would like to keep the stock head unit for look and I am NOT an audiophile. To quote Office Space, "I'd like to listen to my music at a reasonable volume". I don't need loud and I dont need the best, I just want to listen with the top up or while sitting at a red light without rattles at a low yet audible volume. So do I need the "super amp" fix? New speakers? New antenna (which where the heck is that thing in the car?) Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the help and outstanding knowledge I've learned here!!! Been here for almost 10 years and FINALLY got mine too!
Nice 430! In regards to issue #4 or stock stereo, check out Scuderia Audio. I upgraded the amplifier and 2 mini subs. You keep the factory look but drastically improve to a normal sounding stereo. Heres a link to what I purchased: https://scuderiaaudio.com/product/360-430-oem-hi-fi-upgrade/
#3 could potentially mean a fault somewhere on the dashboard, all electronic systems talk to one another via the dashboard in these cars. Unsure how to diagnose it however, should be something in the workshop manual.
I was wondering that as well, but have no clue where to even start. I guess I can thumb through the workshop manual and see.
Oh perhaps someone can help as well on a couple other things: there is a mystery switch on the panel by my left knee. There are 4 of them, 3 labeled and a blank on the far right of that row. Anyone have a clue as to the blank? The car does have a radar jammer system, and not sure if it could be related to it, or if the jammer is always active. I’ve had radar detectors before but never a jammer. There is no head unit in the car but there is a remote. I believe its a kg40? If that’s the right brand name? I’ll go look in a bit.

I don't think there is any easy way to isolate the electrical circuits for the cubby lid release actuator. It probably runs off fuse "PDF9" behind the right hand seat, but if you pulled that, it would kill the following: 1) radio, 2) rear-view mirror switches 3) fuel tank flap 4) direction indicators switch 5) cigarette lighter 6) parking sensors
Image Unavailable, Please Login ooops... or it could be powered by fuse AF18 in the forward luggage compartment labelled "glove compartment ". In which case it should be easy to isolate. Seems there is also a relay in there for the "glove compartment" (Relay "AR7").
After more reading of the WSM, I have the feeling that the fuse and relay in the luggage compartment is strictly for the glove compartment in front of the passenger. In which case, I'm going back to my previous statement. The problem will be harder to isolate.
