Anyone experience this? When driving at night the other day I noticed my dash lights, including the ones in the center console would flicker. The gauges all work, just the lights would change from bright to dim, even occasionally go out for a split second.

Rheostat. It’s a common problem. (I just went through this issue.).

Either replace yours or have it rebuilt.

+1 -- Just give the dimming rheostat knob a few spins back and forth to "wipe" it as a first fix attempt.

Steve’s solution is much cheaper. Definitely try that first.

Please let us know if you do need to replace it, or if it was just (another ;)) case of extended disuse.

May I ask where to find this dimming rheostat in the car ?

On the later TR, it's the knob in the tachometer. See "Instruments and controls" in Section 1 of your TR OM.

In early TRs, it’s in the center tunnel down low near the odometer and digital clock.

If you remove the instrument cluster, you can clean the copper pad in the rheostat with a pencil eraser.
