what sort of condition is it in with all those km? sounds like the suspension doesn't last 10 mins in those things, so it's probably been rebuilt a dozen times, but what's it like mechanically and cosmetically?

Well the motors in excellent shape good bill health good compression across all 8 no dodgy rattles or smoke, suspension is ok I think no rattles feels firm bounces around a bit at speed on crap roads but needs new tyres as well. The clutch has 70% left alas the gearbox works well but 3/4th synchro are bit worn ,clack clack low speed shifts or no sound if you take it easy or are caning it ,the body is good never had crash paint good not mint, no dints or scratches above sill line ,bumpers and plastic sills bit rough evidence of average respray at some time just on those not body .,softtop average will need replace in couple years, seats worn but intact carpets vgood dash good electrics good, in the middle of roof removal to fix gas smell :)$ I really need to drive another good 360 to compare sights n sounds so I know how suspension ect should feel on a good car but in time oh and the best thing about high mileage cars are indeed the wad of replaced parts that go ,heat exchanger goes , hydraulics for roof go,ect,, all done in last 10,000klms

keeping in mind that Shannons belongs to Suncorp, makes no sense to me why one brand would be so much more expensive than the other.

think about it in terms of replacement value. If your car is written off, how much would you need to spend to get something similar in the current market? I think $130k is in the ballpark for non-red import, $150-160k for red Aus delivered with reasonable mileage.

Well it's an incredible car for $130k worth every penny, bit scary but future classic you can still work on in your garage if you willing to read up plus reasonably priced parts again if you like to scavenge .

And based on my experience when I had my GTI with them, I absolutely despise their repairer of choice (Capital SMART Repairs)

The second time I needed a repair done, I made a big stink and managed to get a different company to do the work. May be different depending on the location, but the ones they sent me to were just a pain, mistakes were made and service was meh.

Bump. They finally agreed to insure it for $200k.

EDIT: I just had a squint at when I created this thread and noticed I put down 35,000kms as mileage. 3.5 years later and my car has only moved an additional 3,250kms

I suspect I could’ve gone more as they didn’t need to speak to the ‘manager’ and I thought I will have to pay so much more premium for effectively a $59k car ;)

    Lol
I initially had mine @ $175k but they wouldn't keep it there, so without looking it up I believe I'm somewhere between $160-170. With the market the way it is may have to revisit next year and put it up to $250k then I'm 1/4 of the way to buying Moretti's car :D:D:D:D
